We (my husband and I) are planning to move from Madrid to Bruges very soon, and mi idea is to continue working as a freelancer from there. All I need is my computer and Internet connection, since all my clients will be staying with me. I will even be 'creating employment', since I plan to hire 2 people to work for me.
The question is, how hard will it be to settle down as a freelancer in Belgium? Will there be much paperwork involved? In Spain it was a nightmare! Administration simply stinks here...
Also, since I am the sole breadwinner in my family, will my husband (unemployed and a stay-home dad, hence not looking for a job) have any trouble getting a resident permit?
We are both Spanish citizens, born and raised.
Thank you so very much for any help you can give us,
Cintia.

Just recently, I started to do some fact finding on this. It will take you some efforts, I am sure. But first of all you have to know where to start.
I am going to work as a freelancer too. I found this very helpful site in Dutch 'Unizo' about starting your own business in Belgium. But for you I would recommend www.kmodirect.be That's where your registration procedures will start and they can give you advice. Click the upper link of this site and in the next page you can choose french as language.
Otherwise you'll need to write them an e-mail or give them a call for info.
I am thinking about consulting a tax specialist who can help me out from social security to taxes. I need to know this before I can responsibly define my fees. Taxes are pretty high.
Good luck, and I good use some good hints too!
