Hello,
Having lived in Gent now for almost a year, I have been bragging that im the only Australian living in Gent.
I believe this to be the case, however, i would like to know for sure! Yeh, i know the guy from the "Great Australian Bite" lived in Australia, but he was born in Belgium, so, he doesnt count!
So, if there are any Aussies in the house, make some noise!

Hey Elle,
Are you still living in Ghent? I just moved here to live with my Belgian boyfriend (I'm from Brisbane), our apartment in Ghent is ready on 23 Sept so at the moment we are just at his parents house in Torhout.
I have come here from living and working in London for a year and my working holiday visa is still in progress at the Belgium embassy in London...just waiting now and will go over and pick it up when it's hopefully approved soon!
Do you like Ghent? Are you glad you ended up there rather than in Brussels? Have you learned any Dutch?
Thanks for the tip on still applying for jobs when they say French or Dutch. I've found some good ones but think I'll wait until I get my visa finalised.
I would be greatful for any further advice!
Cheers,
Natasha

Hello to you both!
I will be joining my German boyfriend (I'm an Aussie, about four hours from Brisvegas) in Ghent in January. He has been working over there since February and I will join him for his last four months there (well that's the anticipated timeline).
Because it's only short-term (and then on to who knows where) I'm not sure how 'employable' people will see me. Otherwise I would look at doing a course or something.
Any tips for joining the workforce, and general day to day living? I did go and visit him for a week and then we went to Germany for a week, but living there will be a complete life change for me! I will also be leaving my dog behind :-( as it's a bit hard to shift her for four months and then move her again. And my boyfriend's flat doesn't accept dogs.
Look forward to talking with you more!
Tegan
