Hello everyone,

Welcome to the new Democrats Abroad Forum.

We have set up this forum to encourage political discussion both for Democrats and with Democrats living in the Netherlands.

You do not have to be a Democrat to take part in our forum.

I hope this forum provides an interesting place to debate American political issues.

Best Regards,

Kevin

It's the "buzz word" of the moment. Drives me crazy too. Next thing you know, there's going to be a backlash because employers will think all these "proactive' employees are undermining their authority... laugh.gif

Interested in the election, even though it isn't mine...After two Liberal prime ministers, we now have a Conservative one, just as it looks that the pendulum will swing the other way south of the border...hmmm...

Define proactive?
How can we do anything but write letters and vote accordingly stuck here in Europe!?

Changes are any American living abroad IS a Dem. The kind of flexible mentality required to actually MOVE OUT of the US and to Europe, and thrive demands a liberal mentality. Conservatives would just break imho.

Writing letters never hurts.

True.
I'm just feeling frustrated is all. I am on DU (democraticunderground.com) every day and it's maddening how we are ignored in general. Nancy Pelocy is MY senator, I voted for the BITCH! ... well you get the Idea. I wrote her already and got the standard piss off Email.

I'm just frustrated. I vote and send letter, people demonstrate, IN WASHINGTON D.C. and nothing happens. >sigh< I just don't know what to do. I feel like staying here is giving up, and admitting there is no hope for our beloved country anymore.

Probably would help if you refer to Nancy as your member of the House of Representatives rather than a senator.

Well actually I beg to differ, most folks abroad that I've met are Republicans.
Sure there are a bunch of writers, students etc abroad who happen to be Democrats but don't forget about the many biz and military folks abroad who happen to be dang loyal Republicans.
Most Americans I meet are Rubublicans, originally from small towns in the Mid-West who happen to be here in Yurop for some time.

We want you voting and writing letters. I love you for that.

But there are things we can do!

Find American's who live in NL and make sure they are voting!

Republicans are pretty disaffected with their party, if you convince one of them not to be a Democrat, but to vote for a Democratic candidate you take one vote away from the Republicans and give one to the Democrats.
