Hi im from Singapore and i have just settled down in Belgium with my fiance.We are getting married soon.I have been searching online for dutch courses for beginners and there isnt much information on the net.
I live in Mechelen and i'd be grateful if anyone can recommend me some dutch courses or language schools nearby that i can apply at.

As a non-EU person coming here for marriage, you will be required to do an integration program (which includes a basic Dutch course).

A new start in Belgium:
The reception office PRISMA helps you to get familiar with Belgian society and to find a Dutch language course. We also search a school for your children.

As a non-Dutch speaking newcomer, you get a free integration programme which includes:
# a Dutch language course
# an introduction course about life in Belgium in a language you speak
# a course about work
# guidance in a language you speak

It is even possible that you are obliged by law to follow the integration programme.

Come and see us for more information! You can meet us in Mechelen, Turnhout, Willebroek, Geel, Kapellen, Antwerpen, Mortsel and Lier (we close between the 15th of July and the 15th of August).

Please make an appointment by phone!

You must meet with integration department staff within 3 months of arrival.

Just one omment:

an integration programme can used also for EU-members. That includes
a free Dutch course. But for EU members is to attend not a must.

But if you have time than it is great to have a course for free.

I live in Antwerp and when I moved to there I got several invitations
but: I could speak Dutch before .

Yes, that's true.

I just felt it was important to mention the mandatory nature of the integration program. I came across more than one (non-EU) person at my language school who had been told at city hall that they could take a free Dutch course, and yet they had not been told about the other mandatory components!
