Does anyone know anything about returning to Australia with a partner when you have been living in Holland for several years?

I am planning to return to Australia in the next couple of years with my soon to be husband who is Dutch but According to the immigration website, I have to sponsor him to come to into the country which also requires me submit records of employment in Australia for the last 2 years. How is this possible if I have been in Holland for several years?

Any information, advice or experience with returning to Australia with partners is very welcome.

Hi Cindy

I'm Australian with a Dutch husband. I've been living here for 5 years. We're moving to Melbourne on September 5. There are so many documents and medical things that you need to get the visa in. I have a checklist in excel. If you want to send me an email supasuze@hotmail.com then I can send it to you.

You'll need to sponsor him through the partner visa. It's probably similar to partner visa process here. The employment information is to prove how you could support him. I submitted both our Dutch payslips and that was fine.

good luck!

Hi Suze,

About how long approximately has it taken you to prepare for the move, paperwork-wise? We'll be doing the same thing in a few years' time, so it would be good to know when we should start things rolling. We always seem to leave it just that little bit late, so we get about double the amount of stress we need tongue.gif

Thanks!

Hi Camilla - the paperwork took about 2 months to put together. Trickiest parts are the medical and the police clearance (that was a 4 week wait). Then I called the embassy a week after we sent it to confirm it had arrived and they said it was already approved.... so now we are just waiting for the official word. I would start 8 months in advance to be sure.

good luck.

p.s the longest thing is actually getting a visa for our cat!

Hey suser I am not sure if you are still reading this but I would love the Excel doc too if so... or Claudia or Camilla if you got it? Also would love to hear anyone else's experiences with this. We are thinking of doing the move there too. Was looking at the Aus Immigration site. Do they really want ALL our expired passports?? As in all the ones we've ever had?
Also does anyone know how the Aus Immigration ppl define the date we started living in a "Spousal Relationship"? Could I use the date we moved in together in the Netherlands, which was the official date as used in my IND application?
Thanx for any info!
okay
I would also like to get my hands on that Excel file if it's still possible! Sounds like it will require a lot of planning so that will be a great head start. I get the feeling it will be much more difficult (read: costly) proving our relationship in Australia than it was here.

Good luck, everyone!
