I recently found out Holocaust Denial is illegal in Belgium, as it is in many other countries. Does anybody else see a problem with this? I think it's outrageous that peoples' right to free speech is being squashed. Sure, it was a horrible thing, but we live in a society where most countries fought hard to obtain the freedom of free speech...
It's not illegal to deny the slaughter of Russians or Congolese civilians...
Apparently the law is based on the premise that allowing the promotion Neo Nazy ideals could lead to history repeating itself. The ban includes holocaust reformation theory. I'm not an advocate of holocaust reformation theory. But the method in which the statistics were gathered to measure the amount of dead Jews are definitely questionable, and if people want to question and/or challenge or research this information, then they should be free to do so without fear of incarceration...
Apparently a really good way to get your ass kicked around here is by going around and telling people that you don't believe the holocaust ever happened...
Is this Europe's way of saying "Sorry?"
