I'm a real fan of the plastic fantastic and have a collection of records that covers the 1980s-from long forgotten UK bands( discovered on the John Peel show) to some of the great American underground bands of the time.
The bulk of the collection is in the UK where it has been gathering dust for the last 15 years but I recently brought back a big pile of 7 inch singles.
Most of the music is rare and obscure and it would be a kick to share it.
Any suggestions?

Thanks for the comments...
I bought a turntable with a USB connection-I'll explore the mp3 possibilities when I figure out how to get the software working correctly on my Mac (which is bloody typical)- I like the idea of starting a podcast on my website (www.gidionics.com) but at the moment I'm still enjoying just playing the records with the turntable hooked up to the stereo.

Most of the music in the collection is obscure and rare- released in the early to mid 1980's by small independant record labels and in small quantities before the genre "indie" became hip-so rare that recently I saw some of my 7 inch singles for sale on the internet for up to $300 .
Dozens of great bands and songs that can't been found on the internet and only exist in their origional vinyl format. In a way I feel like a custodian of a rare archive.

Sharing mp3s on the internet is one thing but I'd also like to share the music in the origional vinyl context.

My old pal Onno behind the bar in cafe Soundgarden has offered a sunday afternoon DJ tryout....sounds like a great start..

Any other suggestions welcome!

biggrin.gif Cafe Soundgarden? Count me in! we used to do Dj tryouts in (mumble mumble year) would rush up to rough trade or even small wonder, and buy a load of vinyl then pinch the pub soundsystem...go on then, tell us a few of these 'obscure' bands. You never know, we might have heard of some of them, or even seen them. You are a custodian, you have a responsibility to spread the music!

sounds interesting. unfortunately, I can't make this gig but I wonder if you and maybe others are heading to Rotterdam for Motel Mozaique over April 11-13? eclectic line-up... interesting indie-rock/ electronica/Americana if that floats your boat. I'll be there if you or anyone else fancies meeting up for a shandy
