Hello,

Does anyone know a good store or website where I can buy a Thanksgiving turkey? I am in Brussels 1050.

Thanks.

hey garronh, I'm in 1050 too, and I just started thinking about it. I'm going to ask at the local GB and Delhaize by my place, and I'll let you know what I find out : )

Do the same!

Aha! American Women's Club of Brussels came through!

You can purchase turkeys at the British Store of Brussels in Everberg. The turkeys come frozen and are a fairly good size. The address of the Stone Manor is:

Steenhofstraat,28, 3078 Everberg 02/759.4979 and they have a website at: info@stonemanor.uk.com

OK, so I'm a little late to the party ...

Now that you're in Belgium you should expand your horizons and try one of the best kept secrets in the country, namely the free range Ronquiere Turkey.

As far as I have discovered, you can only by them directly from the farm (contact info below). Call at least 4 weeks ahead and let them know how many people you will be serving (ask a french speaking friend to assist). They will advise you as to the proper size to accomodate all with just enough leftovers (note, don't gauge the weight based on your experience with US birds). Follow the recipe provided, this is like no other turkey you've ever roasted or tasted. The roasting time is much shorter than your typical grocery store frozen lump and it is the juiciest, most flavorful bird you'll ever eat.

We've celebrated Thanksgiving here twice now and our guests, both expats and locals, have never been disatisfied.

It may be a bit of drive but the village of Ronquiere is quaint and peaceful. Take time to walk along the Old Canal and visit the Ascenseur on the Grand Canal.

Bon Appetit!

Any idea how much those turkeys cost? I found a nice 8kg turkey last Thanksgiving in Namur... but it cost me 55E! This year I was thinking about having something other than Turkey for Thanksgiving since I just can't bring myself to pay that much for another bird...

We lived in Bonn, Germany for 4 years before moving to Belgium. The first time I ordered a turkey, it never occured to me to ask the price. It was about 75 Euros (in DMarks it was about 150!). I now only fix a turkey for Thanksgiving, and give thanks that I only buy 1 per year.
I did order a turkey from DelHaize in Brasschaat 3 years ago, and was quite surprised when they called the morning I was to pick ut up. Seems they couldn't get one - we had beef tenderloin - for less money, too.
Van Daele, at Turnhoutsebaan 50, Schilde, has fresh turkeys. They are great, but of course, pricey.

I'm sorry, but I don't recall what we paid for last year's turkey. I do remember being taken aback by the price so I'm guessing that it is in the range of prices that you are discussing. My best advice would be to call Madame Foubert directly. She is always very helpful.

I'm in East Flanders, I've always been able to get a turkey either at the local Delhaize or GB, the first one we bought however we got at the Makro (frozen). They've been big enough to feed a family of five and have left overs. I think the most I've paid is 20 euro, that was for one that I used for a party of 12.

Good Luck

The Carrefour in Kraainem had fresh turkeys (4-5 kg) out in a fridge case in the meat department. We ordered a bigger one for Our T-day dinner. They were reasonably priced although I can't remember how much off the top of my head.

Any one know where to get canned pumpkin?
