A few weeks ago a buddy of mine left for the USA and gave me his old Sky TV set-up. Now we already have Sky at home so we decided to install it at the office so that my employees can enjoy the free-to-air U.K. channels at work.

BUT, I can’t find any company in Amsterdam that will install the system for me. Lots of companies are willing to sell me new systems and install those, but nobody is prepared to earn some money by installing an existing system.

So my question is (obviously) does anyone know of a company that’s willing to do this? Or failing that, how much do those meters cost that allow people to install the system themselves?

Thanks…

Contact Andrew Stuckey - he is very helpful and will sort it out for you pronto.

He doesn't mind if you already have a receiver - we did.

He helped us and we had Sky for a short while before the dumba$$ dudes in our eigenaarvereniging made us take down our dish.

No affiliation etc, just was impressed by his willingness to help.

Just to let you know! No eigenaren-vereniging can MAKE you take down your dish. Sure, there are some regulations, but everyone in Holland is allowed to put up a dish.

buy a compass for a few euros, look on the net for a site that explains how to set up sky - mostly on camping and caravanning websites - the use a portable tv near you to check quality of signal etc (or buy a meter off the net).

it took me about 30 mins to drill the wall and set the dish up to the correct angle etc.

after that within another hour i had ran the cable through three rooms to get it to the loaction i wanted and was up and running.

its not as difficult to do as it seems but if you dont feel like hanging off the side of a building or arent confident in drilling walls etc then its recommended to use a professional like Andrew Stuckley below.

Hi Dennis

The problem was that we could only receive reception if the dish was on a pole over the side of the balcony. We did this and it was fine, but then they quoted the vereeniging rules at us which say that nothing can protrude over the balcony edge.

Subsequently, we tried with a dish in a box on the gallerij side, but they told us we were obstructing the gallerij. Apparently we can put one on the roof, but then we must take responsibility for all roof leaks, whether in the direct vicinity of the dish or elsewhere.

Eventually it stressed me so much having people coming to my door shouting at me, that I decided to leave it for a while.

We're going to ask for permission to put the dish on the roof and get Andrew to come and do it all again for us, once I have recovered from the stress of the gebouwbeheerder being here every few minutes.

My husband read up all the stuff from the forum about satellite dishes in Holland and printed everything out about our rights etc, but because of the way the building faces and where we would need to put the dish to get Sky, the eigenaarsvereeniging were able to use silly rules (like the one about the balcony/gallerij) to get us to remove it.

Thanks for your comments though <img src="../images/emoticons/ysmile.gif">

Yes, I know the Vereniging van Eigenaren can be a pain. If you need any help with the EigenarenVereniging, just let me know!

Hi. I have just moved into my rented apt and may have some difficulties to get permission to install my dish. I have a huge terrace but the installer tells me there are problems to get the signal unless the dish is put on a very high pole. I prefer the roof as it will be much more discrete and my apt is on the top floor. Are there laws that allows foreigners the right to install regardless of the housing rules? I hope to persuade the company that I rent from to give permission but as a backup I would like to know the law.

Thanks for your feedback.
