I am concerned the subject in today's Editor's diary. This implies that your partner can only get a residence permit if they have income.
I have been working here for 12 months and my partner is planning to join me in July. He does not work and is not planning to work in Belgium. I will support both of us.
Has anybody had problems getting a residence permit in this kind of situation?
We are thinking of getting married before the move to Belgium. Will this make it any easier?

We had a lot of problems, in the end they gave us a permit.
In principal you only have to prove that you were a common household elsewhere.
But they asked us for a lot more papers, we printed out articles of law, and argued a lot, in the end they gave in.
In reality, there is little they can do if you dont register (if you are european), but it can make things like registering a car, enrolling a collage more difficult.

So I take it this means one CAN get a work permit on top of a "Partners of a Legal Resident" visa? I'm planning on joining my boyfriend in Brussels this summer, and am very concerned that I won't be able to obtain a work permit, as the "Partners" visa necessitates proof of being able to financially suppport me.

I know you posted a while ago re- getting a permit for your "non-working" partner - I wondered how you got on, as we have an identical situation. Any advice would be really useful.

My husband and I were recently married (AFTER I accepted and got the Belgian job). I have heard that while he does not need to apply for a visa immediately (only after he finds work), that it may be difficult for him to travel in/out of country. I will be traveling for work, and I know he would like to some along on a trip or two (or we may want to vacate some weekends)! Anyone familiar with this process?
