Would anyone know the best way to bring in or transfer money from a Canadian bank account to a Belgian one – without incurring high costs? I am in no rush to access the money and think writing myself a cheque from my Canadian bank will do it – even if it will take a month or so to clear in Belgium. It certainly looks like the cheapest way to do it.
My Belgian bank however is discouraging me from using cheques and is recommending that I wire the money instead. They don’t give the best reasons for their recommendation – other than the time it takes to clear the money and that Belgian banks don’t “usually deal in paper cheques.” Wiring money here will cost me a lot more on both the Canadian & Belgian sides – so I am not too keen on it.
What have been your experiences so far? Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!
