Sorry to be stating the obvious, but a majority of doctors in Belgium will speak English, and that majority get's even larger if you happen to live in Flanders, and will be even larger stil with specialists because they will need to speak english if they are taking part in any clinical research.

Sorry to be also stating the obvious, however as I am a Belgian National (married to an Australian) I think it only apt that I ask for language considerations for the benefit of my wife and our children. As I am from Flanders, hence Flemish, it is in my experience, since I am indeed Belgian, that English may be widely appeciated and somewhat understood, but lacks the clarity and translative qualities. I speak perfect English but it is hard to be the translator especially when talking about medical issues. So upon this could you perhaps be a little more helpful than just "stating the extreme obvious?".

Hey belgianaussie, surely you should call yourself aussiebelgian as you are obviously a Belgie not an Aussie. Sorry for stating the obvious but I too speak reasonably good English but am blessed with a level of comprehension of the language that you seem to lack. Ventho was being helpful, its not difficult, he was answering your question, the method he describes would be the simplest way of locating an English speaking GP. If you were looking for a native English speaker then perhaps you should have stated that or at least had the manners to acknowledge that Ventho was being helpful without the weak attempt at Belgian sarcasm.

If you are looking for a native English speaking GP then may I suggest you try looking in England. Too obvious ?

Heres some gunk that you might find useful.....

Fortunately, finding an English-speaking physician is not a problem in Belgium. Some of the international schools, women's clubs and the Brussels Childbirth Trust (Tel. 02.215.33-77) have compiled lists of English-speaking physicians and medical specialists whom they can recommend. The Community Help Service HELP LINE (Tel. 02.648.40.14) and the American Citizen's Services of the Consular Section of the American Embassy (Tel. 02.508.23.83 or 02.508.23.85) maintain lists of English-speaking medical specialists without endorsing the practitioners. It is often best to ask your family doctor or trusted friends, neighbors or colleagues for reliable recommendations.

Hi DiZZy, first of all, I was not trying to be rude or as you say "attempt Belgian sarcasm" (contradiction: isn't that being rude yourself?) but if I wanted to use the a-z listings and ring up each doctor and ask them whether they speak English then I wouldn't be asking such a question on this forum now would I? That's why I replied to Ventho's smartypants reply - whom I am sure has only good intentions I would like to add too, that my level of comprehension does not lack anything thank you very much I am not looking for a native speaking doctor (I have not heard very good feedback from the UK medical system), I just want a GP that, besides understanding can actually communicate in English. We have tried two local GP's and they both had a reasonable understanding but had trouble conversing in English. The reason we urgently need an English speaking doctor and Endocrinologist is because my wife is ill.
By the way, I do realize I have called myself BelgianAussie (lived there for 5 years) but why did you call yourself Dizzy ... ?
