OK. I got me new 'puter up and running but am a little peeved that MS have stopped issuing programme discs with new desk-tops. Trying to open Excel I'm told that the installation file SKU112.CAB is missing. Without it Excel won't fire up. I've searched for this file without success. Contacting the supplier is a no-no as I bought this beast in the UK and don't fancy paying through the nose to listen to 'hold-on' musical crap. Can anyone point me in the right direction.

Just a thought, but have you tried going online & downloading the required files from the Microsoft website?? Or go to the website of the supplier of your UK computer to see if they can help that way?? Hope this helps.
Kindest regards,
Jane.
The answer from MS is to locate the origin of the file, ie; the disk or HD location. No disk, but I did find the file on my HD but it won't embed it'self! Grrr!

Don't you just love big corporations for all that lovely red tape & passing the buck?? We recently had a new computer built in the Nederlands & Andy bought it back to the UK for me here. The new updates came through from MS & I found out the Windows XP proffessional version (no disc given too) was a pirate version & we have had to buy the discs ourselves to get the probelm sorted, as the updates wouldn't download!! We tried to contact the Dutch company who made the computer & they didn't want to know!!!
Sorry I couldn't help & thanks for the winge.
Kindest regards,
Jane.

1. Make a note of where the file is on the HD.
2. Run Excel again. When it comes to the 'Can't find 'SKU112.CAB' message', does it offer a 'browse' facility to find the program? - if 'Yes', browse to the loaction of SKU112.CAB and then click on 'OK' - the file should then install itself. If it just hangs up, you will have to look for the Excel setup file and re-run it. - That should instal Excel with all its files.
If the software wasn't provided on Disk, then all the setup and cabinet files whould be somewhere on the computer. - The suppliers should have told you where. If they supplied you with *any* disks at all, one of these should include a utility programme to allow you to reinstall the software.
If you can't find the installation files, (and if you don't have Certificates of authenticity from Microsoft for each of the programmes - they should either be in the paperwork that came with the computer or attached to the machine itself) then it's possible that the manufacturer has given you a pirate version of the software. (The manufacturers can install as many copies of the software as they like, but they are supposed to issue certificates of authenticity - and pay Microsoft - for each installation.)
One UK computer manufacturer was prosecuted for failing to do so a couple of years ago - the MD got 6 months in prison, so the courts in the UK treat the matter seriously.
If Microsoft have been ripped off, they won't give you a free copy, so you'll need to get the software from the computer supplier, but if they *have* been ripped off, Microsoft will be very interested to have a report of the matter - and they will almost certainly have the computer supplier prosecuted.

Hi - I am having the same problem expect it is with Microsoft's 2003 Office trial version that came with a new computer I bought. Pretty bad press for Microsoft, why would I want to buy their product in 60 days if it doesn't work??
Any solutions???
I can't find the CAB file on my hard drive.
Thx.
That was exactly my problem Missy,...solution?...Delete all of the trial version and install a workable full version one.

I've just this hour discovered this problem with my Excel on the student licence.
The workaround that I have found is to go into Excel through
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\EXCEL and start it up that way (I advise you create a shortcut on your desktop), you'll see the actual Excel App come up in the background.
From there, if you click Cancel three times (whilst announcing "there's no place like home" if you wish), the prompt asking to reinstall the file will stop appearing and it'll let you carry on as usual.

My advice to all those contributing to Bill Gates bank account:
<a href="http://download.openoffice.org/1.1.4/index.html" Target="_BLANK">
http://download.openoffice.org/1.1.4/index.html</a>
Download an opensource office suite from the link above for FREE
Its compatible (mostly) with Microsoft office and (I'll say it again) its FREE!

open office works well and is as stable as MS Office in my experience(take that as a compliment or criticism!). A good feature is its export to xml, HTML and pdf... no need to use PDFCreator (and better than MSOffice's export to HTML, which is messy).
The key issue remains, of course, that everyone uses Microsoft and MSOffice remains the standard, particularly for small business applications.
For the original issue on this thread try...

Your problem is pretty common and shouldn't be too difficult to fix. Read on:
Try going to Microsoft's Office page and downloading the upgrades for Excell or Office (whichever you bought); that should fix your problem. <a href="http://office.microsoft.com" Target="_BLANK">
