I'm aware from another thread of the Belgian government's 'crackdown' on speeding to raise money - and Mrs W is *very* aware of it ... She received a billet doux inviting her to help clear the Belgian federal deficit for driving 'progressively' on the motorway south of Namur recently.
I understand the Belgians use GATSOs (including, I believe the 'wheelie bin' GATSO <img src="../images/emoticons/bbutbut.gif"> ) and they also use 2 or 3 types of radar, but does anybody know whether they're using laser measuring equipment?

In case anybody else is interested, the Belgian Police *are* using laser equipment (Pro-Laser 1 & 2). Detectors will only tell you you've just been nicked.

Does this mean they don't use radar at all? Only laser detection?
Does anyone know what the penalty(penalties) is(are) for being caught using a radar/laser detector in Belgium?
In Belgium, but mostly in Flanders part, there are 3 major type of speed detectors: 1. GATSO fixed radars. 2. MultiNOVA and miniGATSO mobile (car mounted) radars.
3. Laser detectors (very rare)
Many radar&laser detectors are effective in Belgium.
But using radar & laser detectors are forbidden. I do not know the penalty but I heard in France it's jail! I'd like to know what is the penalty in Belgium.

IF you have a TOMTOM navigator, you can buy the data online on speed camera locations. Haven't received any speeding tickets yet.
