On Six-Nations weekends, the French top division takes a break. Not so for the home nations. Is the fixture list so crowded that they can't plan around this?

The problem is, of course, the old club v country issue. Why should a club buy good players and pay their salaries only to lose them during international weekends, potentially causing the club to miss out on Heineken Cup qualification the following season (resulting in loss of revenue).
annick - the jocks should just give up trying at sport.....
welshboy²
annickburn, your boys will come back ... but it will be a coupla years before they are competitive, look at our shower just last year!.

anyway, hate to mention this as I hate wendy ball but it hasn't been a good week for scotland in Wales this week..

4-0 ... owch

The English will slip up this year ... hopeffully ;-)

Please eccept my apologies, I've just realised ye won a medal at some tournament somewhere for that game (whose name has slipped my mind for the moment) where a bunch of housewifes push and polish something with a stick while making loud manly noises. Yes to be sure, a proud sporting nation once again.....
Oblomov
Ok, so a sporting activity where it's only men, and they're all wearing tight shorts, during which they all hold on to eachothers bums? Allright, why not kiss each other after they score a goal? Oh yeah, sorry, we aleady have football. Oh god, am I in for a beating if we ever meet.
Scotland are rebuilding this season and privately expect the wooden spoon. This is part of the regeneration of the squad to look four years ahead to the next world cup. They are absolutely correct in doing this. I would say that the game against England will test them to the full and the coaching staff will note the players that did not buckle under pressure. From a rebuilding and learning point of view, Scotland can only win this weekend, regardless ofthe score.

As for Wales v England in the RWC, I suggest you look at the game again. Despite a very spirited Welsh performance, they were simply ground down by the best team in the tournament. Ask David Campese, if you don't believe me.

Also, we are not Scot-bashing, although you could not blame the English after years of anti-English "support" whoever England plays against.
Scotland are rebuilding every year...in every sport....someone wake me up when they've finished....

Unless of course you're talking about curling, yes the sport of kings to be sure.....
Careful, Dizzy, you're on thin ice!
Does anyone know how the Rugby went today ?
belgophile
terrible for us, great for you!

Fair do's to Scotland though - they played well.

How come Ireland couldn't play like that against France??
France didn't let them. Scotland made Wales look good. The reckoning happened this weekend.

Scotland did improve and took another step up the ladder of progress. Well done.

Now, what would you do, if you were the French coach, with Dominici?

Also, who thinks Woodward is a prat first-class for his comments aboout the Scottish pre-match entertainment?

(BTW, it was not put on specially for the English, as he may think. Scotland have been putting on a good pre and post-match show for many years now.)
Why ? do they have grand slams in curling too ?
brewer
Indeed, Sir Clive takes himself so seriously he's becoming a prize nob-jockey.

So what are the predictions for Italy Scotland and England Ireland on the 6th, folks?

And does anyone else get annoyed by that wooden blonde interviewer for BBC? Instead of congratulating old Mulletface on being man of the match, she just asked him when he was getting a haircut.

Predictions:
Italy 15 Scotland 12
England 22 Ireland 25

(we got the main man back now !)
Italy 20 Scotland 18
England 35 Ireland 9
Wales 22 France 28

Wales 25 - France 21 (heart over head)
England 3 - Ireland 41 (dream land)
Scotland 6 - Italy 6
If it pours with rain in Cardiff this weekend, will they close the roof?

OK Diz, so they'd close the roof. No big deal!

BTW, only one point out on the French score!
I'm hoarse as hell today, watched the game in an Irish pub in London, great atmosphere and great result. I was great to stuff the English on their home turf, doesnt happen too often, so pardon me for gloating....

In my eyes, although England were outclassed on the field of play :-) I hold English Rugby in higher esteem than I did before the game. They were so gracious in defeat and conducted themselves with such civility. They were a credit to the game of Rugby and I nearly forgive them for being such arrogant gits in Landsdowne Road last year with regards the red carpet incident....

It would have been a perfect weekend if the Taffs had taken the frogs, as it is the French unfortunately are now favorites to take the championship, we should take the triple crown handy and the Scots once again have another wooden spoon to add to their collection. Is their any truth in the rumour that the Scots want Spain to also come into the championship to avoid this yearly drubbing....

What a cracker the France v. England game should be, and I wonder how they will pick themselves up for the Welsh game ? they have everything to lose and nothing to gain from that one.....
Diz, when you phoned me (prbably pissed) on Saturday night, I was at an EC function. Sorry I couldn't talk, although of course I would have loved to have chewed the fat with you. Anyway, that's my story and you can't prove otherwise!

England 42 Wales 6
Scotland 10 France 32
Ireland 36 Italy 15
me pissed ? this weekend ? don't be silly....

England 24 Wales 26
Scotland 0 France 132
Ireland 20 Italy 15
vijfal
My condolences to England !!
What for?... winning the world cup?
vijfal
Come on, you've got to pity the team that loses to the Paddies on their home ground !!
Ooh, Vijfal. You just teed yourself up.

Dizzy selects his oversized driver, takes a practice swing and...
brewer
Instead of rubbing it in about the Paddies, what you should be doing is asking whether the Welshies are going to do it as well........
Well I know who I'll be shouting for....

Actually at least the Welshies show a bit of flair/inventiveness, the jocks are just a total write-off.... (I'll be eating very humble pie of they wake up against us....nah, it'll be easy....)
welshboy²
Wales will do it if we can sort our scrum out. The back line have got the invention and confidence to create chances, we just need a solid platform....

oh and a ref that penalises constant garlic munching infringments (ok ok, I know, don't abuse the french etc)

oh and refs that understand that a forward passe ends in a scrum not a try!

I'm not bitter honest!
Don't get me started! A forward pass is one that goes forward, not lateral!

Also, the ref knew naff all about front row play. The Welsh constantly collapsed under the pressure. And what about the Welsh diving on and over the ball?

France won DESPITE the ref, not because of.
welshboy²
It was forward

Credit to Betsen for flipping the pass but it was forward.

did I mention it was forward yet?

oh and Ellisade, kicking the ball out of the scrum that led to Betsens forward pass.

its all there on tape Marcel...
The ball was out and fair game. The Welsh scrum was under extreme pressure.

It's on tape.
of course it was forward, the French were the ones under pressure so once again resorted to cheating, heres hoping they manage to cheat the English out of a win in Paris too...
Rugby again this weekend ! thanks god for Rugby....

ok, so how much are Scotland going to lose by this weekend ? will the Taffs give the Enlgish a hiding ? predictions please.....
Well 31 points. no comment. The English looked rattled for a while but came through well in the end. "Super Saturday" should be a cracker next week.
brewer
Poor old Belgo and Welshboy must've been getting quite excited at one point.....

Bit of a poor performance from the French, but it's not as though they needed to turn it on I guess. They didn't seem to fire at anything more than 50%. Nevertheless they'll go into the next game favourites, which has to be a good thing from England's point of view.

Now - Ireland v Scotland at Lansdowne Road - and they need a 50 point win......can they do it?????
France had one eye on next week. Did you notice that on the 2 or 3 rare occasions Scotland got their act together, France stepped up a gear and suppressed it (especially in the last minute where they showed some outstanding defence).

It'll be a cracker on Saturday. There will only be one score in it and I can't honestly say which way it will go.
Brewer - I doubt it very much if the Paddies can beat the Jocks by 50 points. I'd say they they will win, but only by 8/10 points.

As for the big one, I'm hoping/praying/dreaming that the Frogs beat the English, just so the English lose and finish lower than us. Who cares if the frogs take the Championship. However, I actually think the English will win, I reckon they will intimate the French and show them no respect. I think the Paddies could have taken them in Paris if they hadnt shown them any respect, if they had O'Driscoll I reckon they would have played with a higher level of confidence in their ability but alas...

Roll on Saturday......
France 22 England 19
Ireland 55 Scotland 3
Italy 79 Wales 18
