Does anyone bank with Fortis? I heard that they are going to start charging for using their own bank machines. Does anyone have any tips on banks that are much more user friendly?

I have banked with ING BE (formally BBL) for almost a year now and have no complaints, their homebanking is easy to setup and use and in English and I receive all my mail in English. The Branch staff are always very helpful.

Of course if 1 bank starts this and gets away with it you can guarantee it will kick-start the rest they tried it in the UK...best option is don't use the machines anymore just create queues in the branches. Banks don't want people in the branch for day to day transactions, they want to concentrate and sell their other products..
I've got an account with Fortis and indeed they started charging. I've got the Prisma type of account so I can use all the cash machines for free but they are deducting a tax of 2,30 euro/ month charges.

Cristina, have Fortis started charging for each cash withdrawal?

I too have a Prisma account - which costs 2.30 a month, but I wasn't aware that they were charging for the use of the machine as well.
P - read cristina's post again...

I did that Bank tariff simlulator mentioned on the news section of this site today.

Anyways the following banks don't appear to charge for their accounts.

<a href="http://www.argenta.be" Target="_BLANK">http://www.argenta.be</a>/

and

<a href="http://www.abk.be" Target="_BLANK">http://www.abk.be</a>/

The only banks in Belgium it appears. Argenta even seems to offer a whopping 1.6% interest.

My Dutch and French aren't good enough to understand all the details though...perhaps I've misunderstood or perhaps there's a catch?

Would be interested to hear if anyone uses these Banks... what do you think of them?
