I wonder how the people working in Amsterdam park their bikes at Ams Centraal ? In a safe? Have an ugly bike and park normally, in the condition that the bike is so ugly that hardly any thief would care ?

How about the practices in other stations in NL ?

Didn't make any difference to my partners old bike, was in very bad condition yet still got stolen...

So how much per year/month is keeping your bike in a safe ?

In some stations there is a stupid "locking" system: you put one of your two wheels in there, and it is locked to the ground. The assumption is that the thieves find no interest in unmounting that wheel from your bike. Sigh........

I think the only solution is perhaps a box/cage that has it's own door lock but I don't recall seeing them much in Amsterdam. We have them where we live outside the station but people still leave their bikes all over the place. In fact, it's hard to believe the places they do leave them... they just don't seem to care whether they are still there when they come back or not.
A thief, whatever they are trying to steal, will do whatever they can to get whatever they want, we just have to make it as difficult as possible for them and hope they move on to the next victim before they take from us...

I finally bought an old sparta bike, park at Amstel instead of Ams Centraal.

Amstel is less crowded and biking there saves me time from going to Ams Centraal.
