Hi folks,

I am looking to buy a used car, can anybody tell me what are the rules and regulations in netherlands for buying a car: like registration , tax , insurance etc.

please advise me any specific website where i can look to buy a used car ?

also can somebody advise me the breakdown of fixed expenses everymonth that i have to pay like for tax, insurance etc.

how much does it cost every month for having a car, so that i can prepare my budget ?

Cheers

As you have been in the UK for some years, the system is fairly similar to owning a car there: the annual check is called an APK rather than an MOT, and you dont have to display tax disks, but still have to pay tax on your car (cost depends on the car you buy).

When you agree a sale, the seller will give you a document that you must take to the Post Office if you don't have a dutch driving licence (make sure you complete the sale during post office hours or the garage won't let you drive it away, iirc).

You will need to arrange insurance - this cost is impossible to estimate because you might have a small car with full no-claims bonus, or you might have a sports car with several accidents or traffic convictions on your licence. There are websites like Independer.nl that can give you quotations. It's not cheap; nothing to do with motoring here is cheap.

Websites: If you want a private sale, marktplaats.nl has a section for car sales. Apart from that, look in the local free newspapers which usually carry pages from all your local garages (second-hand cars are called Occasions in Dutch)

check www.gaspedaal.nl , this is a one stop website for all the used car dealers and websites and ususally gives the best result.

good luck

Check autotrack.nl . It has one of the most detailed lists of cars and you can use the filter options to zero in on specific things that you are searching for.
