Anyone interested in playing American Football with the Amsterdam Crusaders in the 2010 season is invited to attend the try-outs on October 18th, 2009.
The tryouts will cover all age disciplines of age 14 and up. Coaches will be present to assess and advise potential players in the age groups 14-16 (Cadets), 16-18 (Youth) and 18+ (Senior).
The session is open both to those with previous playing experience at any level to those who have never played the sport before. It is common in our sport to receive athletes who have little or no experience in American Football, so our coaches are used to teaching skills to players varying in experience from none to US College or NFL Europe. We are looking for players in all positions.
The intensive program will test fitness, stamina, effort and talent. Normal sports clothing is sufficient for this tryout session, although if you have them then we advise bringing shoes with cleats for outside work. If not, standard sports shoes will do.
The program will begin at 1pm sharp and continue until 4pm at the Amsterdam Crusaders' training field at Sportpark Sloten, Amsterdam. Participants should ensure they are present and ready to go on time and to aid this the club house will be open from 12 noon. Showers are available after the try-out combine.
If you wish to attend the try outs, please register on the website:

or email stevecru@gmail.com (English or Dutch language).
Those who show sufficient ability and/or talent at the try-outs will be invited for a number of "rookie" practices in October 2009, intended to prepare new players sufficiently that they will be ready to begin full pre-season practice at full speed with the rest of the returning squad in early 2010.
It's a great sport, and a great team atmosphere, and we're very happy to welcome new members of our family.
Amsterdam Crusaders' senior team was founded in 1984 and in that time has reached the Dutch National Championship game no less than 20 times, winning 15 of them. The also featured in 5 European finals, winning 2 of them in the early 1990's. Many of today's stand-out players graduated through the various youth teams of the Crusaders.
In 2009, the Amsterdam Crusaders senior team finished with a perfect 10-0 regular season record and retained their national championship with a 36-7 win over Lightning Leiden in the Tulip Bowl. They also reached the 2009 European Cup (EFAF Cup) semi-final and ended the season ranked the #18 team in Europe by the European Federation of American Football (EFAF). Notably, Amsterdam has managed that while operating on a strictly amateur basis - unique amongst EFAF-ranked teams - yet a professional approach.
In 2010, the ambitious Crusaders will be aiming to make it three domestic titles in a row, and to again make an assault on the EFAF Cup tournament, so European home and away games will be on the menu.
The Crusaders' coaching staff is the most experienced in the Netherlands, and includes many former Amsterdam Admirals.
