Could you create a forum for the subject of science in the German or Netherlands site?

I'm afraid I can't promise anything, to be perfectly honest my general feeling is that we already have too many subforums.

Having said that I will most certainly look into it and the more members who side with you ... well the more likely it is to sway my mind. So if any of you agree with Lissa, please make yourself heard.

I agree with this statement. Half the topics could be stuck into a forum called 'Social' or 'Chat' - everything from non-Dutch Politics to Music... everything that doesnt relate directly to living/working here. It would make it easier for people with 'country' related issues to find what it is they are looking for.

After all, there's a million other general websites/forums out there dedicated to music, science, politics, etc

Expatica Admin and Osita's comments reflect my own feelings about this place. As a newcomer, not to fora in general, but to this one specifically, I have to say that there are far too many 'sub' forums that, I feel, really could be lumped together under general headings.

Whilst with time and increased familiarity this place will, one hopes, become easier to use for the 'newbie', at present I find that it's not particularly user-friendly. Increasing the number of sub-forums will only add to the clutter and confusion.

Just my tuppence ha'penny's worth.

You could just rename 'Technology' to 'Science and Technology' ? No additional sub forums, and keeps the OP happy.

Well, Matt, it doesn't look very good for me at this point. I guess it was a bad idea. But thank you for your effort and time, I appreciate it.

Hi Lisa,

I wouldn't go so far as to say it was a bad idea. I am always happy to hear from our members if they have any ideas about how the forum can be improved ... and something good did come out of it.

This dialogue has helped me cement plans I already had to unclutter the forum and that's thanks to you ... although it's not what you were going for I'm afraid . Time and manpower is always an issue at Expatica but I can see that I need to make this more of a priority.

Here's what I will do:

First- monitor this thread to get some more feed back.

At the moment the majority are backing the de-clutter option but we'll see if things change over the week. Assuming it stays this way then when I settle on a plan to reorganise I will post a new thread in the feedback forum to let you all know how I plan to change things. You can tell me what you think about it then, before I actually make the change.

Secondly- Stonewall's suggestion is a nice simple solution that I will act on immediately.

Matt, how about creating an Auto forum? There are plenty of things to discuss about cars, but this should be from the Expat point of view. Topics could include things from driving in the Forum Country, some technical stuff and things like importing a car. Many more things could have been discussed. I know there are plenty of car forums on the web, but this particular forum would be from the Expat point of view and I don't think there is a forum like that on the web.

it's a good suggestion but it does mean an extra forum when the general consensus seems to be for fewer forums ...

Well, we do have a Travel and Transport forum.
How about renaming it to Auto, Travel and Transport :-)

Maybe forums could be reorganized and merged.
