I live in NL with my Dutch bf with a partnership visa. I work full time. My salary in 2008 was about EUR 37,000 and that was the only in come I had. I don’t own any property so I guessed my tax situation is quite simple.

Earlier this year, my bf helped me to fill in my tax return for 2008 via a programe downloaded from Belastingdienst website. In the end, the programe calculated and said I don’t have anymore tax obiligation but won’t receive any tax back either. After a while, I’ve received a letter from Belastingdienst somewhat confirming the situation and said they would investigate and get back.

I’ve found this very strange as I had my tax return the other years (while having the same status: partnership with my Dutchie). Back then my tax was paper–filled (so a tax officer would have to calculate manually). And I got some money back.

Before calling Belastingdienst, I would like to know about my situation. What are my tax benefits in this case? What do I expect to get back from belastingdienst. And if possible, could any one tell if I should receive tax return and if yes, how much in the below situation,

Arbeidskorting: EUR 1500
Loonheffing: EUR 10 000
Loon: EUR 37 000

Again, I am non EU national living here with partnership visa. We have no children or other dependents. I am not a home owner.

Thank you very much in advance for your advice, comments.

Hi Tammn,

Doing a quick calculation and assuming no tax deductions, a wage of 37,000 gross (assuming this includes all your bonusses, vakantiegeld etc) would result in just under 10,500 euro in tax. So the loonheffing of 10,000 seems reasonable but I may be slightly off.

Hi Taco77,

THanks. But Loonheffing is the amount of tax that already deducted /paid before I receive net salary.
What I would like to know is hte amount of tax return I would get from the amount (10 000) I've already paid?
Do you have some suggestion?
THanks

Hi Tammn,

I do not understand - is the 37,000 your gross or your net salary? I was assuming it was your gross (i.e. before tax) salary. Now, if 37,000 is your gross salary, then your calculated tax bill (loonheffing) is 10,500 euro, and your net salary is some 26,500 euro. You are right to say that the loonheffing already gets deducted by the company you work for and you should not have to pay anything else, but neither are you entitled to any rebate. The only scenario where I know you are entitled to a rebate is if you have only worked for part of the year (sounds contradictory I know, but this is the case).
