No it is not normal. A buy is final (with the exception of "colportage" and "kopen op afstand"). When the buyer and seller agreed on the sale, the seller has to deliver the goods for the agreed price, and the buyer has to accept the goods and pay that price. Let them know you can't accept that 100 extra.

Thanks for the reply... I should have explained a bit more. Work on out flat started last year in October and we were told it should be finished by the end of the year (unfortunately work is still in progress.) While out shopping in August last year we saw a nice carpet and they were offering quite a good discount so we decided to order it letting them know when we'd be ready and they said it was no problem, thinking we'd need it delivered the following December/January. We later did the same with the sofa in January, thinking we'd need it delivered in March. I think the problem might be because we ordered the stuff so long ago and plans haven't gone as they should have done with our flat, but I still didn't think that they could do this though... I'll talk to them during the week about this as I still don't think it's right, but may be I'm wrong.
Or may be it's another way of getting more money out of us!

Are they considering the 100 Euro a storage fee? I can understand that, as it has cost them space to store it for you. You might be better off renting a small storage space somewhere.
Good luck with the rebuilding. That's a bummer it has taken so long. If it is a builders fault, maybe you can claim storage costs from them.

I'll have to talk with them and see... of course I can understand if it's a storage fee but still feel rather peed orf, we're having enough expense with our ruddy internal renovations which has totally pithed me orf as it is. All depressing stuff I'm afraid but there's not a lot we can do about it now. I just hope for it to be finished before the years end so we can move on with our lives.

All's well that ends well. Wesley, when shit like this happens again, try talking to someone at consuwijzer. They can help with things like this.

I'd rather speak to the shop/place concerned first... in this case the people who work there are VERY friendly, nice people helpful. The guy I spoke with said not to worry, that it was just a case of the sofa price going up while we were waiting and that as we'd signed an agreement last January, that price was still binding.
I think it might be a family run business as I've dealt with a woman, a man and a younger guy who could be their son... very good looking too!

From the perspective of the company, you did agree to pay for and accept delivery of an item on a certain date. This date, and the expected income, goes into their income estimates and inventory estimates. Remember, that if you agreed to buy someone for 500e and the company goes out and secures that item, then you want to receive it and pay for it 2 months later, there is a cost involved. If they go buy and store the item for you, they are effectively lending you the cost of this item for a period of time.
I am tired, hope this makes sense. Sounds like you resolved it. But in general, this is not an evil practice for a business to expect you to take delivery on time.

Yes by Wesley was unable to accept the goods, so your above analysis is thus flawed

No, it wasn't a certain date, more a rough estimate and we explained everything as the renovations haven't been going at all well and was told it was no problem. We extended the date a few times but meanwhile the price of the sofa went up... actually, looking at their web site it looks like it hasn't gone up at all so I don't really know what that was all about, only good that we didn't have to pay that extra. Here it is, really looking forward to using it.

We paid €1499 + €55 for delivery.
And yes thanks, that did make sense.

So, first not fast. Uh, yes, I think he'd prefer it slow. I'd kinda like to slowly run my nose down his treasure trail . . . and with that thought, off to bed.
