Hello friends,

I will really appreciate if someone can give their opinion about my situation. I did my Masters in US and have been working here since last 3 years. Recently I got admission for a PhD program @ univ of Groningen. I have a fairly stable job in US and would like to know if , in current situation its advisable to go for a PhD in Netherlands.

I will get around 1600Euros in the first year, followed by some raise in next 3 years. Can someone tell me if this will be good for Groningen?

Also, I since I have been working in US since 3 years, can get benefit of the 30% ruling?

Any other information/comments/suggestions will also be helpful!

hello Harshad,

Which dept are u joining. Groningen is a nice place to live and people are friendly too. with 1600 euro u will do fine. U can rent a student house for 300-400 euro. and other expenses will be around max 500 to 600 euro.

If u want to rent Pvt apparment with single bed room u must look some where 500-700 euro.
Phd students can get 30% ruling but it depends on how scarce your skills are and then tax gods will decide about it. Its very difficult to tell directly whether u will get it or not.
Any way if u r single u will do fine with that amount. But one thing is for sure as netherland is small country its very difficult to find permanent jobs here afterwards.

hope this helps

best wishes
junta

I thought all knowledge migrants in the category of 30% ruling. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Yep you're wrong. There's other criteria for the 30% ruling. Namely having to have been recruited from abroad.
