I just wanted to post a warning for other chiropractors who are thinking about working in the Netherlands. Please be very cafeful who you work for. I have just returned from Zoetermeer, NL, where I had the worst experience of my life. The employer in question was suppose to have arranged living accommodations as well as transportation for me before I had arrived as part of the employment contract. After I had made the trek to Holland, the accommodation I was offered was a 6 ft be 9 ft room in the office I was going to be working in. The bed was an air bed. There were no curtains or blinds on the window in the room. That far north in the summer means it gets light at approx. 4:30 am every morning. There was not even a comfortable chair in the office. NO transportation was ever provided, not even a bike. I later found out that they had not obtained a BSN number or work permit for me and I actually was working there illegally. After attempting to learn Dutch and join the society, I was in a state of sleep deprivation. The employer then decided to terminate the contract without any form of compensation. I was then forced to fund my return trip. In the end, I spent 2 months in the country and it cost me approx. $4000 CDN to work for this particular office. Please before you think about joining any office in the Netherlands, get the contact information for some past employees, have the terms of the contract clearly defined and don't take any substitutions that are not completely to your liking. People will try to take advantage of the fact that you do not speak the language and are not used to the culture.

Update: The employer in question is now under investigation by The Ministry of Social Affairs for violating exploitation and human trafficing laws.
