Hello,
I am thinking about planning a day trip to Texel. It's only 1hr15m on the train to Den Helder and then the 20 min ferry so I was planning to hire OVfiets as soon as we get off the ferry and cycle around, have some lunch, maybe have a swim and then do the return journey to Amsterdam.
Does that sound silly? Can anyone recomend which side of the island has the nicest scenery, least wind, nice cycle routes, best beaches etc? Any tips re. nice cafes etc or do you recommend a picnic (I assume Albert Heinz dominates Texel?!)
Much appreciated

I would stay in Texel for the night and go back the next day. They have a spanking modern youth hostel. Do a internet search for stayokay texel. They have pictures and looks pretty nice. (You don't have to be a kid to stay there.)

They have bikes there too.

It is very good idea to go visit Texel Island. You take the train to Den Helder and then it is ~ 20 min walk to the ferry. You can take a bike and drive around the island. They have nice dunes you may see some seals and probaby many birds.

Here is some info:

Texel

Also go see Terschelling, but then you need to take different day to go Herlingen and fast ferry (there is also slow ferry). There is a festival in June so you missed it this year.

Do some research and talk to Dutch people about that. I am sure you will have good experience which I hope you are going to share with us smile.gif . Good luck!
