I have been confused over how to get a Burgerservicenummer without actually being in the country, but now I know thats not possible I have formulated this plan.

What I plan to do is when all my affairs are in order, take my savings and plonk it down on a temporary apartment and flights and go over there (with no job!). Next, register with the municipality and in doing so get my BSN (wait 4 weeks I know!). I'll also register with any job agency that I can taking my design portfolio with me wherever I go. Once I have the job and therefore the income I will register with the IND and get a permanent apartment.

My questions:

1. Can I register with the municipality using a temporary address? I plan to get an apartment for 3 months before moving to something more permanent. What I mean is, will they be funny with me because I dont have a 12 month contract? I've heard people have used hotels! What documents will I need?

2. Am I right to say that the BSN is delivered to you automatically from registering with the municipality? You no longer have to go to the tax office?

3. What is the difference between the Expat Centre in the WTC and the place where you register wth the municipality anyway? Looking into the Expat Centre it appears to help with employers bringing in migrants from outside the EU. Certainly, employers make the first move towards the Expat Centre anyway. Doing it myself like this, I wouldnt have to go near it would I?

That's about it really. I've been looking for the cushy option of getting a relocation package but for the work I do (web design, graphic design, computer programming) I really need an agency out there to be helping me (which some wont do until you live there).

Any other tips, let me know.
