hello. i am new here. i just landed at Schiphol last Thursday. I'm just checking out the site. I was actually trying to find a way to buy rosetta stone for dutch in amsterdam, but found sooooo much more about foreigners learning the language - hot topic!! LOL

anyway, i'm sure i will be looking to this site for support in the coming days, weeks, months and years (decades?).

thank you for checking me out.

btw, anyone know where i can purchase rosetta stone for dutch actually in this country? i've scoured the internet to no avail. i should have grabbed one at the mall when i had the chance before i left the states.

thanks for you help,

April,

why don't you just buy it online from Amazon. They sell the full Rosetta range online.

I have checked for you, and it is available.

I know they ship their products all round the world, so this will/should be your best bet.

I can give you links to a free website that can start you off while you look for it or wait for it to be sent, if that helps?

www.taalklas.nl

I've only seen the trial lesson in Rosetta, but would say the taalklas lessons are not too dissimilar.

try Waterstone's in AMS perhaps. iirc the language section is on the third floor.

Thank you all for your answers.

I've already made my decision on rosetta stone. I'm not really sure why, though. I guess because it seems easiest and fastest to me. I'm kind of scared I won't be able to learn. I have trouble with some of the sounds, not only because they are new and different, but i have permanent numbness in parts of my toung and lips. i know, i know, i'm making my excuses early in case i can't do it. LOL

Anyway, I tried Amazon already -- they won't ship to NL

I will try waterstons's as soon as I google and find it. I live near amstel station in AMS, so it should be easy for me to get to, and i could use an adventure.

again, thanks so much

Amazon.co.uk will...That's where I bought my Microsoft Office a few months ago so I could get it in English!

And btw...it's on sale...

Yeah I can confirm amazon.co.uk will ship to NL. I had some books sent to my bf from there a couple months ago.

Also, April, I'm using Rosetta Stone and I really love it! Good luck!

You can buy Rosetta Stone from a shop called Inter Taal which is just a few doors down from the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.

It's a shop that specializes in language books, I brought all my Japanese text books there, and Rosetta Stone Italian - which I found to be an excellent system. Apparently the CIA use it, so it must be good.

The people who work there vary in quality. Some are very helpful, most are not.

well, tyvm. mr cow - LOL

i checked out amazon.uk or rosetta stone. uk, or some uk place, and the price was almost 700 usd by the time you add the AVT (whatever that is), so i was thinking about just waiting utill i go back to visit the US later this summer and buy it for $400 or 450 on sale at the mall. i'm doing all right not knowing the language, but i know i'm missing sooooooo much. i.e., it would be nice to know some local news; like arts and crafts fairs, special art exhibits, food fairs, stuff like that. plus when my husband talks in his sleep, it's always in dutch! LOL

i haven't checked out the events section here yet. i'm looking forward to that.

thnak you very much for your response,

april

I don't know if it matters, but I use amazon.fr sometimes so I can pay in euros... i think ti probably evens out in the end, but I hate having to consider the exchange rate for everything that I buy online.

Lawren, good point. I've been using amazon.fr for years now for my c.d.'s because it has been cheaper than amazon.co.uk. I still tend to use .fr out of force of habit, despite the fact that .co.uk is now cheaper due to the falling pound.
aprilinamsterdam
thanks lawren & purple. that's a good tip about .fr i went past inter taal yesterday, but was unable to stop, so i know where it is now.

i'm still having trouble with euros/dollars. dry.gif
