My 30% Ruling will expire in 2010 - how did you cope with it? was it time for you start looking for other job/country to balance your budget?

On the other hand, should my income tax return increase as a house owner?

My friend recently lost his and said it was a bit of a shock and has hindered his travel and budget quite a bit, and he has a mortgage so I suppose that didn't offset much....but his colleagues said "welcome to the real world of Dutch income!" .... I suppose if all you care about is money, you should move or look for a higher-paying job (though I don't believe you can get the 30% ruling again). He likes it here, so is living with it and being appreciative he had it for 10 years.

You must have been doing pretty well to get he 30% ruling, You mean to say after 10 years, you will be living hand to mouth. I find it hard to believe.

It's finally forced me to make a real start to that company I always wanted and to finalize a permanent residence status so I can move job-to-job without having to deal with extra paperwork.

In a way, it's good to get out from under the security blanket. The 10% ruling can make one a bit lazy.
