Full Version: Where do you buy clothes if you're a bit bigger than standard sizes?

I've been looking for some clothes to buy for work and I'm not really sure where I should be looking because I can't seem to find my size in a lot of stores.

I'm 32, reasonably sensible when it comes to clothes. I think if I were to name some shops that I like (and I don't shop often, so I am not in "the know" here in this country) I'd say Mexx or maybe Mango...

I wear a US size 14 to 16 in pants and I'm 5'9. It seems like the biggest size in most stores is just a bit too tight and then if I go into a shop with plus sizes they're HUGE and not entirely fashionable.

Advice please!!!!!

Have you tried Vero Moda or Only (quite often in the same store)? I'm a bit like you, although more in the 16-18 bracket (which I'm busting my guts to change!), but just recently I've found some really lovely clothes in there with good sizes (for tops). Not too sure about their pants though to be honest.

In the V&D there is usually a section with Principles clothing and they've always made lovely well-sized 'work' clothes - nicely cut tailored style trousers etc.

I know what you mean about the plus sizes here! Even H&M make hideous tents for the larger people! May as well shop at Perry Sports!! Good luck!

ha ha! tents... honestly, thanks for the tips and making me burst out laughing. I'm heading to Perry Sports now.

I actually broke and bought a pair of jeans at H & M the other day, and I'm regretting it now, because they're so cheap, and way too stretchy. I feel like I'm wearing pregnancy pants. Not to mention the waist is up to my armpits.

I'm definitely going to check out the V & D though. Thanks for the tips smile.gif

You could also check out the Bijenkorf. They keep lots of different makes and therefore many different sizes. They stock reasonably priced stuff going up to expensive but they sometimes have good special offers or reductions so it's always worth checking the place out. Mexx have a large store in the Hague and also a few branches in Amsterdam, as do Esprit. The Hema can be quite good for tee-shirts/tops too, sometimes good for wearing under a suit in the summer.

Wehkamp.nl has a nice selection of sizes even in length you can choose.
Miss Etam is quite reasonable too.

Although I wonder whether the designers at Miss Etam are colour-blind.

Weirdest colour combinations I've ever seen...and they've discovered shades of green that could have only been invented in someone's nightmares...
