I think your computer has to be "tv-ready" first of all wes. But beyond that, no idea. We just bought a TV from Nekkermann for under 300 euros because I just can't justify spending more unless the content starts catching up with the technology!
For the software I'm looking at hardware isn't needed so your PC doesn't have to be "tv ready". You can either use the players you already have or the one that comes with the software you download... from what I've seen anyway.
This one allows you to do it within the website itself:
http://www.wwitv.com
Where as there are many more that you have to download and most asking you to pay first.
Um, after much more research, it would appear to be a complete con/scam... This forum on eBay really says it all starting from July 2006 to date: http://forums.ebay.com/db2/topic/The-Homes...-For/2000184551
And here it's explained:

Oh well, at least I didn't part with any money.
We plan on going for SKY at sometime in the future with all the trimmings of Digital TV broadcasting but don't want to spend out on anything at the moment seeing as we're spending, still, so much on our home. Fortunately, my partner has managed to get free a more or less new portable LCD TV from a friend that will see us through for a while, I hope.

My parents just spent waaaay too much money on a TV...replacing the big screen one they bought just after I moved here less than five years ago, believe it or not! Built-in obsolescence, dear...It's how a company stays in business...and it's gotten worse as time goes on. We get p*ssed off because we remember when things used to last...but our kids won't even blink because they can't imagine a time when a fridge used to last 25 years.
We bought ours in Autumn 2003, kind of shocked me that it's only lasted this long, I remember when TV's lasted decades but as technology is changing so fast these days I guess it's going to happen. Technology in the past wasn't as fast moving as it is these days but yes, it really does annoy me that things don't last as much as they used to. I want to buy things that last, that's why I bought a Kirby vacuum cleaner. After 14 years it's only just had it's first service costing just over €200 and, we were extremely lucky to only pay £300 for it as at the time they were going for around £1k! Now, the guy that came to service our Kirby said that if we bought a new one, costing €2700, he would give us €1200 for ours. Buying a Kirby vacuum cleaner is an investment, hard to believe in these times...
There's so much competition these days too that companies chuck things out so cheaply to keep in business and as a consequence, many products are quite crappy, no quality. Our TV is JVC, gone wrong (kept going on and off all the time) twice in 5 years. We bought a JVC VHS player which after a while started playing tapes very badly after which we gave up on it and bought a JVC recordable DVD player. That bloody thing went wrong 5 times in a few years!
The last time was just before Xmas a few years ago so, wanting to record stuff over Xmas we bought a Philips DVD hard disk player which has turned out to be the best thing we've bought for ages! And the beauty of which is, we can download any updates over the Internet to keep it up to-date not having to bother taking it in for repairs. Oh, and don't talk to me about Sony. I had a few things from them that went wrong so many times, I must have bought them a few times over spending so much out on repairs! I'll never buy anything from them again either.QUOTE (Canucky Woman @ Apr 16 2009, 11:14 AM)

In fact, in my parent's basement is a fully functioning spare TV from the late 1970s...I was still in high school when they bought it! And it's never had a service call...Unbelievable, eh?
I can believe it... it is hard to believe that things used to last so long, it really is. Why we live in such an unnecessary throw away society I don't know. We make it so bad for ourselves, environment and all... mind you, will that TV still work once they pull the plug on analogue TV. It's all going digital soon in many places all over the world...
