Our bloody TV finally packed up yesterday, after having spent time giving it a good cleaning, seems like it was quite happy to be filthy! dry.gif Anyway, it had been going on and off (did the same a year and a half ago but fortunately then we were in the 5 year guarantee, which rather annoyingly finished just last year, but now, it apparently isn't worth us spending out for the repairs, even though it still looks brand new, as a new one will be much better and only cost a few hundred more than it will cost to repair it. Can't believe it's only lasted 5 years and to put it on the rubbish heap! dry.gif ) for the last few months anyway so I guess it was no surprise but don't want to spend money on a new one just yet so thought about other ways to watch TV that are free. Has anyone else got or looked into this software that allows you to have satelite live TV to PC and is supposed to give you the ability to watch around 5000 channels from 78 countries around the world? huh.gif I downloaded one yesterday which gave you 30 days free after which you had to pay a one off, I think it was about €30 but it looked stupid to me as when I clicked on what was BBC channel 60/61 it turns out it was a recording of BBC1 from 2007! huh.gif Every time I clicked on it it showed the same shite and no ITV channels seemed to work. Anyway, in the end I decided to remove the software, didn't bother checking out any other channels from other countries as that wasn't of much interest for me. So, anyone else tried this kind of way? I see there are many similar types of software out there but most ask you to pay before being able to use it which I'm reluctant to do. I'm just at the moment looking on www.download.com

I think your computer has to be "tv-ready" first of all wes. But beyond that, no idea. We just bought a TV from Nekkermann for under 300 euros because I just can't justify spending more unless the content starts catching up with the technology!

My parents just spent waaaay too much money on a TV...replacing the big screen one they bought just after I moved here less than five years ago, believe it or not! Built-in obsolescence, dear...It's how a company stays in business...and it's gotten worse as time goes on. We get p*ssed off because we remember when things used to last...but our kids won't even blink because they can't imagine a time when a fridge used to last 25 years.

In fact, in my parent's basement is a fully functioning spare TV from the late 1970s...I was still in high school when they bought it! And it's never had a service call...Unbelievable, eh?

Wesley what you are talking about is not really IPTV, it is a program that streams cable content online. You have to watch it on your computer.

I would be highly suspicious of this service as its probably illegal. The company may have access to cable subscriptions all over the world, but they are certainly violating the law by broadcasting them online.

I doubt you could get in trouble for using the service, but giving your credit card info to a company that blatantly violates the law is probably not a good idea.

For the software I'm looking at hardware isn't needed so your PC doesn't have to be "tv ready". You can either use the players you already have or the one that comes with the software you download... from what I've seen anyway.
This one allows you to do it within the website itself:
http://www.wwitv.com
Where as there are many more that you have to download and most asking you to pay first.

Um, after much more research, it would appear to be a complete con/scam... This forum on eBay really says it all starting from July 2006 to date: http://forums.ebay.com/db2/topic/The-Homes...-For/2000184551
And here it's explained:
http://askbobrankin.com/free_satellite_tv_on_pc.html

Oh well, at least I didn't part with any money.

We plan on going for SKY at sometime in the future with all the trimmings of Digital TV broadcasting but don't want to spend out on anything at the moment seeing as we're spending, still, so much on our home. Fortunately, my partner has managed to get free a more or less new portable LCD TV from a friend that will see us through for a while, I hope. smile.gif

We bought ours in Autumn 2003, kind of shocked me that it's only lasted this long, I remember when TV's lasted decades but as technology is changing so fast these days I guess it's going to happen. Technology in the past wasn't as fast moving as it is these days but yes, it really does annoy me that things don't last as much as they used to. I want to buy things that last, that's why I bought a Kirby vacuum cleaner. After 14 years it's only just had it's first service costing just over €200 and, we were extremely lucky to only pay £300 for it as at the time they were going for around £1k! Now, the guy that came to service our Kirby said that if we bought a new one, costing €2700, he would give us €1200 for ours. Buying a Kirby vacuum cleaner is an investment, hard to believe in these times...

There's so much competition these days too that companies chuck things out so cheaply to keep in business and as a consequence, many products are quite crappy, no quality. Our TV is JVC, gone wrong (kept going on and off all the time) twice in 5 years. We bought a JVC VHS player which after a while started playing tapes very badly after which we gave up on it and bought a JVC recordable DVD player. That bloody thing went wrong 5 times in a few years! angry.gif The last time was just before Xmas a few years ago so, wanting to record stuff over Xmas we bought a Philips DVD hard disk player which has turned out to be the best thing we've bought for ages! And the beauty of which is, we can download any updates over the Internet to keep it up to-date not having to bother taking it in for repairs. Oh, and don't talk to me about Sony. I had a few things from them that went wrong so many times, I must have bought them a few times over spending so much out on repairs! I'll never buy anything from them again either.

I can believe it... it is hard to believe that things used to last so long, it really is. Why we live in such an unnecessary throw away society I don't know. We make it so bad for ourselves, environment and all... mind you, will that TV still work once they pull the plug on analogue TV. It's all going digital soon in many places all over the world...

Like I said, Wes, it's how a company stays in business. The Dutchie bought a really good 35mm camera about 25 or 30 years ago...still works, but he can't get accessories or service anything for it because the company went out of business years ago -- apparently the stuff was TOO good, so nobody felt the need to replace it or fix it. Therefore, the company made no more money afer the initial purchases...and couldn't stay in business long enough to take advantage of the digital era...

Yes, that's what I said. Satalite TV on PC. You download some software, some ask you to pay before you do this while others give you a free trial...

They say it's not illegal as the streams are already out there...

There's so many of them:

I wasn't happy to do that, which is why I've been doing a bit of research as it sounded too good to be true, which this certainly appears to be... though they say that it's not illegal as you gain access to open gateways. Anyway, my personal experience says that it's all a complete load of bullshit, the picture is crap too and many stations you click on don't even work or direct you to the broadcaters website where in our case many, BBC and ITV wont allow you to watch anything unless you live in the country concerned. Can't believe I've wasted my time on all this shite... aaaargh! dry.gif

Do you have a sat box/digibox .... ? if so why not just get a tv card . i use a pinnacle hybrid usb stick to get tv to laptop/computer.

otherwise

There is a difference between IPTV and Internet TV.

Internet TV - from the internet with computer, i use "Super Internet TV" from www.ahusoft.com - there are plenty of cracked versions available! This gives tonnes of channels from tonnes of countries

IPTV - i know coz we got fibre-optic to the house. Have kind of hub/switch in meter cupboard that has the glass going in , then it has a bunch of rj45's. these have my wireless router in one hole and then cat5 cable to an AMINO-110 which is the IPTV decoder (90 euros 1 off payment!). This then plugs in tv/pc or whatever.

You cannot get IPTV over the internet as such, it just all gets delivered to your house in an internetty way as it all comes down the fibre. You have to be with a tv/phone company that owns their own wires/optics in the road.

Even if you buy an amino box, you cant use it unless you have right connections to your house - ie u cant do coax to rj45, and your supplier must be pumping out digital signals.

ps: i think they using ip6 on the backside box in the cupboard , coz i can't get in to play about with it using ip4

oh - Super Internet TV does not work on Windows 7!
ok on XP & Vista

Are you still looking for a solution?

How about this? It has 44 British channels, but not much of Sky's offering - not that I know what Sky actually has.

In order for it to work, you must have the VLC media player installed in the default location.

No, not now... I think I already said in previous posts that I'd given up on satalite live tv to pc. We were given a small flat panel LCD TV which is good enough for now and in the future we're going for SKY+ and will hopefully be looking at this TV to watch it on:
http://www.consumer.philips.com/c/cinema-21-9/30849/cat/gb/
And anyway, after discovering torrents, I get to watch what I want when I want... stuff I thought I'd never ever get to see again. wink.gif
Thanks anyway. smile.gif
