Hello all,

I find myself in a unique situation. My father has recently accepted a job in Antwerp,Belgium and as his son in the US, I would like to help him out to make his life more comfortable in Antwerp. He will shortly be joined by my mother and then - my parents would like to shop for houses in the Antwerp area (more importantly near the port of Antwerp). My mother has been a home-maker all her life so from that perspective, I would like to use this forum to gather information and advice on how to approach buying a house on a permanent basis in Antwerp. Loans, Mortgages, w/o Belgian citizenship, residency etc.

My parents are in their early 50s and I am 24. I have a sister who is 18 and we are literally scattered all over the world, at present. So it would be nice to find a nice comfortable home for a change.

So here goes:

1 - We are looking for a house in the Schoten, Kappelen, Brasschaat, Ekeren & Hoevenen areas of Antwerp. Basically residential areas near the Port of Antwerp and not too far away from the city. So if members could provide their perspectives of each areas, individually - would be great.

2 - How much do, lets say, 3 bedroom townhouses (and similar) cost and how are their purchases dealt with? How much downpayment vs mortgages and those sort of things?

All advice and help is very much appreciate. Please remember that all information gathered here would help a family be together, which needless to say, is an often familiar situation.

thanks alot,

Wow! Immoweb is an excellent site. thanks lex

This is Antwerpsebaan, B-2040 - so is that old or new ?

Ive been browsing alot of properties on the site..we're looking in the 200-250K euro range. Conventionally, how much downpayment and what kind of mortgages can one expect?

I know this is on site as well...but regional "human" help would be more credible smile.gif

thanks again,
