Hi

Here is my situation, I've had a Belgian girlfriend for 5 years, we have lived together in Canada for 3 of those years but we never married or applied for any status. Since September we have been apart, her in Belgium and me in Canada for professional reason. We've decided that I would try to transfer (I work for a Multinational company) to Europe (most likely France or the UK)

If we get married in Belgium, would I get an EU work permit right away or does it take some time. Ultimately from what I've read marriage should give me EU working rights, but I'm not sure about the timescale. I have other options Canada and France have a under 35 visa program that I could use, but that limits me to France, if Marriage gives full EU, that would be preferable.

Any help would be appreciated
