Hurra Michael Jackson has announced he's coming back into the world! No matter if he's weird or not he's one of the greats for sure.

Is this a joke?
lissa0915
Nope, I read this in a German newspaper, plus it was in the media here in the US. He made an announcement in the UK that he'd be doing a few concerts.

Maybe Martha was querying the statement, 'he's one of the greats for sure.' wink.gif

I always liked him, but now I've read that it will be his final curtain call. sad.gif

Aside from his being "unique", you don't think he's a great entertainer whose been an important footnote in music's history? Come on...

''Thriller'' was a very good album and ''Off the Wall'' was pretty good too but that was a long time ago. rolleyes.gif I think he is past his sell-by date now. I did see him in concert many years ago and it was a good show but I don't think he could ever claim (as he would have liked to have done) the title ''King of Pop''.

I was a teenager 25 years ago, and I think the only song I ever liked was Billie Jean. Some of his work even then was rather boring - the slower stuff was being done far better by other bands: it was a new age for music and he was one of, but not the only, innovator.

He was certainly the king of the cinematic music video, but does that make him a great? I don't know.

The eighties were very experimental and many genres of music were born then -from New Romantic and House to early Rap and Indie - some of which survived and some which were left behind in that decade too. Jacko was maybe too unique and his influence wasn't felt in anything that followed (on this side of the pond - no idea in US/Canada) until his work was old enough to be retro and therefore cool again.

Legend. Period.

Kooky too. But a legend.

If you are DJing and the dance floor is dead, drop a Michael track an it will be full up in no time.

I blame him for causing all male R&B singers in America since the 80s to sing like little girls. dry.gif

Saw clips from the O2 news conference yesterday. Apparently he gets his lip implants from Melanie Griffith's plastic surgeon...

Well he should give them back. They don't suit him.

Any deep house party in the US. Black DJs playing black music.

I cannot imagine Michael Jackson appealing to many fans of Deep House (one sampled track doesn't make ''deep house'') - that is laughable (see Little Louis Vega, Ian Pooley,St. Germain to name a few big names of the genre). I don't think you would find so many black DJs revering MJ either - he isn't viewed as too cool and has mainly a white based fan following.

I admire him for how he basically help "make" MTV ( when it was good then) in the early 80s. He was the first major black crossover artist during this time & when he dances, omg.

Afraid I completely agree with marthamay, he's way past his sell by date now... certainly looks rotten. biggrin.gif He seems to have changed into an alien even... Such a shame as he used to look so good looking, if only he could have seen it himself... actually, I used to think he was stunning. Such a shame... mellow.gif
After the 'Thiller' album I completely lost interest in his music. His 'Bad' album was appropriately named. biggrin.gif That aside, he certainly has been a good entertainer and will certainly go down in 'HIStory' for a few things...

I think he should sue his plastic surgeon... perhaps it was an experiment that went a bit wrong. ohmy.gif

Ah yes...when MTV actually played music!!

Do you remember actually sitting there and watching it for hours??? I can't believe it now...but we used to spend evenings watching it (and the Canadian equivalent, MuchMusic, when CBS News's John Roberts was VJ JD Roberts and a babe-a-Rama rolleyes.gif ) with a few beers and munchies!
