It bit of a boring end I think.
At least it wasn't an epic 10 hours long!

i find danny boyle's creations brilliant.

watching slumdog broke my heart. maybe because i'm aslo from asia and i can relate to the culture showed in the film.. it is of course a movie and very much romanticized but i did find it a good film. it's only a pity they made the characters speak english.

technically speaking it is a british film entry (it is not an indian film) which is based in india.
part of the cast is british (born and grew up in UK) and their mother tongue is english.
as for the others (lead actors) english is pretty much their first language too.

no body really make them speak english. it was the demand of the film.

i am aware that the cast is mainly composed of british-indians (i dunno if this is the politically correct name for them)) but the movie is supposed to have happened in india, ain't it? then i only find it most natural that they would speak the native language.. i really wouldn't mind reading subtitles, if that would make the movie more "realistic"in presentation. just like Jesus was speaking in Aramaic in the movie the Passion of Christ, i really appreciated it, when i barely know this language.

Well, just because a film is based in a country does not mean that the people would have to speak a native language. tons of films from all over the world which are based abroad go ahead in english, italian or another native language. In this case Britishers have made a film in their Language which is based abroad. They do not even know any other local languages of the country where they filmed this film.

And there are are parts which are not in English. Not sure if you have ever been to the subcontinent. But English is very widely spoken. there are officialy 25 languages (i think). And the people from other states do not speak language of each other and often use English to communicate with each other.

No comments on the Jesus film.

Following thing surprises me about this movie :
--A guy from slum speaks only in English throughout the whole film.
--I don't understand why the 'religious things' shown in the movie that has nothing to do with the story.
--Indian slum is not full of only muslims.
--I could not imagine in India that someone will be questioned for cheating by cops the way they shown; just because he given the few right answers
to questions asked.

Above all the movie is too dramatic, a fairytale and a work of pure imagination and has nothing to do with the reality in India, having said that if
you all agree to it then the above points are useless.

However, if you think it is not then I strongly disagree and feel pity for what worlds thinks about India and its legal system.

Cheers,

haha. it's just a matter of taste. this is my opinion and of course you are also entitled to your own.

i say it would have come as more natural to me if it's spoken in the indian language since they are majorly showing a situation which would mostly likely be only possible in india (and i'm familiar with all those corruption/sindicates since i'm also from a neighbor country where those kind of things would not really come as a shock) i indeed appreciated the kiddie scenes since they were in native language.

Fair enough. But as you have already seen it , it does not exist in this world. And the appeal and attention the movie has been able to draw is because it was made keeping in mind the international appeal and not individual wishes.

I think some of you have mssed the point of the film.

It is supposed to be a fable with a message - not based on real life. It amazes me that some people can't see past the obvious and look deeper into films/books.

As regards to speaking English in the film - it isn't a Bollywood film - it's made by an English director and is a British film. To find a whole cast in the original country who could act in the film would be a massive undertaking, which is why so many films are shot with English as the first language.

Great Film. Very well made !!

8 Oscars. It would have probably struggled to make it to best foreign film category , if it was in the local language.

I saw it last week and I was thrilled to see it before it won all its awards.
