Does anyone know where I can find these? I am in central Amsterdam and am yet to find any so far.

Albert Cuyp Market!! They're taking turkey orders for Christmas! One of the booths gave me a number to call to reserve...

Ham, however, I don't know. I would be interested in finding out though...

As far as I can see, every shopping precinct in Noord Holland has one of these. I've used different ones, and (maybe I've been lucky, but) every one has been helpful. By helpful, I mean they will go into their storage rooms and pull out the exact joint of beef/lamb/etc that you ask for and are happy to cut it for you, even if it's not a typically 'dutch' cut.

They all order turkeys for you; our order went in last weekend, ready for 23rd December pickup. We didn't know the size to order (we have a smaller oven than last year) so the manager went and pulled a couple of birds out of refridgerated storage for us to compare sizes.

Moral of the story - don't be afraid to ask for something you don't see on display, most are happy to accomodate you and if they can't, nothing ventured nothing gained smile.gif

Small peices of ham can be found at Dirk van de ... at the one behind the Heineken museum although it is not as tasty as the uk you should add salt when cooking.

Thanks everyone. I will go on an expedition tomorrow to place my order!

Oh, that's a handy link! There's even one in Zwanenburg...Which beats hauling a bird home from Amsterdam on the bus! (although I'm just getting a wee one...)
