Does anyone know what the repercussions are should you be caught in SA with an old style firearms licence after the deadline (based on birthday) for application of re-issue of a new licence has passed? I see that I was supposed to apply last year, and I failed to do so.

Last visit to SA, we got stopped in a road block where they were checking for illegal firearms. I don't sound South African and played that up, pretending to be the stupid foreigner on holiday (kids sleeping in car and partner warned by me not to speak more than one word at a time or they'd realise he was a saffie). Offered to show my Dutch drivers licence, but the cop just waved me through, saying that I obviously don't have a firearm on me, and there's no need to see my drivers licence - have a nice day and welcome to south africa!

However, I would prefer to know what would happen if I am caught carrying with an old-style licence.

Anyone have any ideas?
