Hi all,

We're travelling to Spain this week with Transavia and their baggage rules are making me nuts. The website says you can have a whole 5 kilos (wow!) of carry-on baggage and 20 kilos each for checked luggage. My question is can I carry a largish purse or a laptop in addtion to a 5 kilo carry-on bag or is this a total of 5 kilos for all my hand-carried stuff? I'll most likely call them but would like to hear others' experience as well. Also, are they super strict about the weights?

Thanks in advance.

We flew to Greece with them last year, and I don't remember them making a big deal over hand luggage. They certainly weren't like some of the budget airlines back in the UK who make you weigh handluggage or split it into different bags until each weighs xkg. But we were going on holiday and deliberately didn't take a laptop. I think that if your bag appeared to be about the right size to fit in an overhead locker, they were ok with it. But this is just my story - and we might have caught them on a good day?

Thanks Shap.

Well we called Transavia and got a person who knew less than what little was posted on the website. She said she "thought" that you could take a purse that wouldn't be included in the 5 kilo carry-on total, but that we should read the website for more info.
Gee, thanks.

We'll just have to wait till tomorrow and see what happens. I'll post the outcome, whatever it is. Any other experiences are welcome.

Well, I guess this is kind of late now for you but maybe others are interested. I have traveled a couple of times with them (to dif destinations - France, Denmark etc.) and I never had problems with hand luggage (and I am the type of person that has always had over sized luggage tongue.gif). The 5 kg limit is mostly informative, they rarely check it.

Anyhow, besides the 5kg bag you can have, free of charge (at ANY company as far as I know --- well except for traveling to UK --- I am not sure about that) a laptop bag, a purse, a camera, a book, an umbrella, a jacket etc. So enough I might say. Moreover, what I usually do if I need to carry extra hand luggage, I always go at checkin with a small bag and leave the other one(s) with the person accompanying me (if any). Once you do the checkin, nobody actually cares what bags you have... (that's a trick I've been using for a long time, but I try not to abuse it as it is not very nice when people have 100 bags and others cannot find space for their small ones... emergencies only tongue.gif).

Hope you had a nice trip (oh, how I envy you for your holiday in Spain hehe)

My son used to fly to Rotterdam and back to stanstead with them since we got here, until just recently they stopped that flight. He never had any problems, in fact they asked him if he wanted to take his x-box out of his suitcase incase it got damaged and he always had quite a bit of usual teenagers hand baggage.

Adding to this, Transavia were excellent when my son was younger (about 14) They would always take him onto the plane with the crew and saw him off the plane at the other end making sure he was met by someone. Shame they have stopped flying from Rotterdam to Stanstead.

Just a follow-up on Transavia....

We flew again to Spain last month and had no problem taking a carry-on each please my purse and his camara bag. A bit of advise if flying out of Schiphol on Transavia; they were pretty strict about the weight of the checked luggage. We say a few people with their bags open and moving stuff from one to another or to the carry-on bag. They didn't weigh the carry-ons at all, though.

Happy skies... tongue.gif
