Hey All,

I hope you all are well.

In June/July I will be moving to Ghent, Belgium from New York where I am currently pursuing my MBA (going to work for a large multi-national firm after graduation). Before NYC, I grew up and lived in Boston. I would like to find another professional ex-pat to have as a roommate to share the expenses (150 euros per month for water, heat and electricity???) and some company. The folks at AM/PM movers told me that sharing flats is just not "done" in Belgium. Can you guys confirm this?

And if it is the case that I have to live alone, can you give me an idea of what a place would cost that has a dishwasher, washer and dryer included?

Thanks!,

I've noticed (and don't take my opinion as the gospel truth) that flatsharing is more common in Brussels than in Antwerp/Gent/Leuven..... It's sounds logical because rents in Brussels are significantly higher than in the other cities mentioned above.

However, having mentioned all that, living style depends on personal preference. I know of people who live in a studio in Brussels, paying approximately the same amount as someone sharing a room in an apartment.

however, stating that sharing flats is just not done in belgium is definitely not true!

You haven't provided enough information about how long you are planning to rent for. The price of accomodation is about directly proportional to period of rental.
