I am in the process of getting my Working Holiday Visa for Belgium.
I have a few questions, if anyone has some info to share that would be great.
1. How hard is it to find a job in Belgium, I only speak english, some german...Admin jobs, marketing,PR...
2. What city would you recommend for a start, having in mind finding a job is my main priority
3. How hard is it to get a permanent visa once I have a job?

I have been working in Belgium for over 1 year now. I started out on a working holiday visa, and now my company sponsors me. They took care of the paperwork, but it didnt appear very difficult! Just a few trips to the city hall.

I only speak English.

I got my job within 1 mth of moving here. At forst, it was very hard, and I really thought i wasnt going to get a job, because of the language problems. However, i work in a position where i am communicating with people form around the world, so my English was an asset.

I would have thought that i would have gotten a job in Brussels, but, i ended up in Gent!

One piece of advice: even if the job says you need French and Dutch, if it is an international role, apply anyway. You never know.

My boyfriend and I are planning to move to Belgium. I'm French but he's Australian and only speaks English, and I wondering if you'd have any tips on job search in Belgium for an English speaker. I thought it'd be a requirement to speak at least French or Dutch (in his case, he'd be working in IT) but from what you said, you managed to find a job easily without speaking French or Dutch?

Also do you enjoy living in Gent? Is there a lot to do there? Do you know any English speakers working and living in Brussels?

I know a few people who only speak English, and have got jobs pretty easily in Brussels/Belgium (especially so in IT).

Brussels is expensive, and you should be prepared to be unemployed at least for 3 mths!

Hello All,

I am a 30 year old Australian who has just been accepted for a Belgium working holiday visa.

I am currently residing in Amsterdam.

Can anybody please tell me the best way to register, get tax file number or address registered etc and be ready for work as soon as possible when I get to Belgium?

Any other advise would be most welcome.

I have called the Town Hall in Brussells (where I plan to reside in) on a couple of occassions and have been informed that it will take between two to three months to receive a National Security Number which I need to get work.

It takes so long as a police officer has to go to the place where you reside to verify .

They also did not have an idea about taxes and how I should go about it as the Town Halls themselves do not seem to know a great deal if anything about this process of Working Holiday Visa.

Any other advise would be most welcome.
