I'm a Canadian girl, doing my Phd at the University of Amsterdam. I first arrived in 2004; after a year here, then a year in Berlin, I've recently returned to the Netherlands. Most of my friends have since gone abroad to work or study, so I'm eager to meet some new people in Amsterdam. The city doesn't feel the same without having friends around... Not looking for any dates, just to meet some new people, have coffee, drinks, etc.

Hi!

Have you checked out www.meetin.org yet? You can find lots of events there that are organized by young expats, there's something new every week and I guess it's a good and uncomplicated way to meet new people! You can register, read about the upcoming events and join the list of participants for the event that you like.

Hi Annete!!
I know exactly what you mean... Amsterdam is such a beutifull city but with no friends to share it...
I'm a portuguese/brazilian doing a master of Anthropology at the VU. So, just like you I really love to meet new people and there are not many things that I like the most then being among friends just chatting, sharing some thoughts and laughs. I also love to know more about other cultures, or I wouldn't be studing anthropology, eheh. So, if you find a good idea let's gather some more people like us and do something social wink.gif

ciao ciao!!

Ilovepeas
Hi, I am 24, I am not a student anymore but I do miss the lifestyle!
I moved here about 8 months ago from the UK and I have been finding it pretty hard to meet new people so I would definitely be interested in meeting up and getting to know some people who are in the same position.

Just let me know and I am there!
Tasha.si
So how about if we youngsters just set a date to meet up?
I propose a Thursday evening. Next one even. 29th. Anyone interested?
esuvs
Hi Guys, I'd also like to join you. I'm a 26 year old actually living in Utrecht, but it is easier to meet people in Amsterdam. Thursday would be fine by me :-)

However, as you can see these forums are a bit slow to get responses because you have to remember to check it, etc. I suggest anyone who wants to meet up on Thursday posts their email address here. Then if we haven't got a final plan by Thursday we can finish of organising it by email. So make sure it's one you can check at work :-)

Mine is david <at> david-williams.info

Of course, if people post to say Thursaday is no good we can move it...

Hey there Jorginho!
I saw you were studying anthropology at VU. I'm actually applying to go to VU this upcomming spring to get my masters in geoarchaeology. I was wondering if you had any insight about the University. Is the academic program good? how are the professors. Is the student life good?
any help would really be appreciated.
Thanks for your help!

Great smile.gif It looks like we can go ahead as there will be at least three of us. I can meet any time after about 6:30. Some food would be nice, so maybe we can go for italian/chinse/whatever and then grab a couple of drinks after. Otherwise we could go straight for a pub that does food. I know of a couple in Rembrandt square, but I don't know Amsterdam that well so suggestions would be welcome smile.gif

Well let's say 7pm then. I suggest 'Cafe de Kroon' simply because it's one of the few places I know and it seemed nice enough last time I was there. You can see the map here:

http://www.channels.nl/pages/625.html

I seem to recall it was next door to Club Escape. My mobile number is 0638 355666

Look forward to meeting you guys tomorrow!

its nice but it was really expensive! I personally like pubs better than cafes. We'll see if anyone else responds with their preferance

Sure, a pub would also be great, but I don't live in Amsterdam so I can't name many places... I think there was one called 'Three Sisters' which was near by? Anyway I don't think 'Tasha.si' gets to check these forums during the day, and I've already emailed her to say we'll meet at De Kroon.

I suggest we stick with that for the meetup, and then we can move on somewhere else for another drink or if we want to grab food?
matthie
no worries in that department, i know tons of pubs in Amsterdam biggrin.gif
but ya we can meet there for starters

Anyways I don't really know anyone and would like to meet some people. I live in the Edam area but have no issue going into Amsterdam. If anyone would be up for a drink let me know. MDCSKi2@gmail.com

Hey, I'm Canadian too. I just moved here a month ago and it is tough getting around with not knowing many people. It would be nice to meet with someone perhaps with a common interest or two and have a good time out. I know you posted this a long time ago but if you're still looking for a new friend or someone to new to meet you can email me at underthewhiteout@gmail.com.

Hi All,

Just wanted to post an update about this weeks Friday get together hosted by the Amsterdam Expat Meetup Group. Judging by the current RSVP count and the turnout each of the past three weeks, I am guessing that about 35 people will attend through out the night. There is usually an even split between new and returning members. I look forward to meeting anyone that can make it.

Peace,
Michael

Amstel Haven! Dancing after 10pm.

Location
Amstelhaven
Mauritskade 1
1091EW Amsterdam

RSVP's so far:
16 Yes / 14 Maybe

The Amstel Haven is fabulously located on the Amstel River in the southern part of the centrum. Although they serve dinner till 10, it is suggested that we not get there before 10 since other people (not in the expat group) will be having dinner till then, which means we would all be crammed around the bar, and crowding the people eating, waiting for the music to start. If you would like to grab dinner there before 10, post it in the forum so others can meet you there. I personally can't make it before 10. Sorry. =(

So I'll be there at 10pm (That's 10:20 in LA time), and swigging a nice cold beer, awaiting your arrival. You can blame Summer if I'm late since he was supposed to schedule this meet up for Babs' return from Duitsland. But as you may see from the internal posts, Summer is a wobbly slacker. =) I say this with all silliness. So please giggle at that last couple sentences. No frowning allowed. OK, perhaps he's not so much a slacker as he is wobbly at the end of the night. Come out to the Amstel Haven and see for yourself.

Tot dan,

Bubba

Hi Jorginho,

I am Brazilian and I am also a gradute student of Anthropology at VU, I am getting there in February 2009 to do my PhD. I´d like to exchange some information about the University, the program, the city, etc. I still don´t have a place to stay while I´m there and I´m looking for people to share an apartment. Let´s keep on talking.

abs,

Maria Paula

Hi,

Me and some other people (also met from this forum) are going to Groningen this coming Saturday, December 6 just to explore the city and do some fun touristic things.

This is basically driven from some discounted train tickets (costs 25 euros and it's good for two, unlimited train ride all over Holland one whole day)

At the moment we are a group of 5 (ages ranging from 21-26), so we're trying to recruit at least one other co-participant (or 3, or 5, to even out the group, for maximum use of the tickets )

We are all from Amsterdam so we're meeting up at the station in the morning.

If you're interested to join us, please message me at maqpaglingayen@gmail. com

Cheers!
