Hi All,
I watched this interview last night (Twan Huys, seen him before but never paid much attention). He seemed to be an Obama suppporter (although the audience was half and half, with a few Mccain supporters mixed in). He showed this really beautiful video (that I had seen already) made by Obama supporters and then a really lame (not negative, just stupid) video, with Hillary Clinton as the subject, but was not made by supporters. Madeleine, to her credit, reacted very well and I could see in her eyes what she was thinking (She's seen all this before). Since she is a Hillary supporter, Mr. Huys was probably looking for a reaction to the negative Hillary videos. She just answered the questions in a very simple and clear way.

The interview was itself pretty good, as she was able to display her expertise in dealing with the issues which she was confronted with when she was Sec. of state. She's really angry with the Bush team.
Her new book is for voters to read now, and for the new president to read before taking office.

There was also some discussion about Kosovo, but the interview took place before they declared independence. But it is a good example of seeing the consequences of a foreign policy of 10 years ago. It makes me wonder what Iraq will look like 10 years from now.

Any thoughts?

She reckons the political advantages gained by the U.S. from the sanctions on Iraq after 1991 was "worth the deaths of over 500,000 Iraqi children".

Of course now we know it was all for naught. How quickly we forget, eh?

I watched the video. I think what MA said was awful. Although, I believe it was a UN decision and the issues are not black and white. This is one of the reasons I would never seek political office. I could never make these life or death decisions. A politician, a president MUST. I think that is the reason a lot of miitary support Republican candidates because they think that a Democrat could never make these life or death decisions. It does bother me that often American lives are valued more than the rest of the world. But this is how many Americans, I believe, feel. That's why Bush was able to scare many of us into thinking that Hussein was a threat.

It puts Democratic presidents at a disadvantage because their main supporters are against the use of force, and they are very critical when it is used. It is interesting to speculate what would have happened to Kosovo had the US not intervened militarily. But, as Barack Obama said recently, the mindset has to change that brings us to war. And I see some hope in that.

The world situation is just too complicated to judge every act individually. I find myself immobilised by the thought "damned if you do, damned if you don't" . So how to I vote for someone who can still act under these circumstances. And on who's behalf?

I'm still going to read her book.

This happened in Kosovo as the consequence of the NATO intervention 1999.

True, in another world Albright would be on trail as a war criminal, she sure is guilty.
