Full Version: Leaving Schiphol with two passports

I am getting ready to travel to N America. As a dual citizen, I have both US and Netherlands passports. The US requires you by law to show your US passport when you enter the country. For this reason, I'd just rather bring my US passport and leave my Netherlands passport home. It reduces the chances of being lost or stolen. But what will happen at the passport control desk in Schiphol when I leave? There is no entry stamp in my US passport, so I'm a bit concerned about running a-foul of Dutch law. I do have an EU identity card that I can flash if necessary. Anyone have any experience with this sort of thing?

I have a similar situation and always carry both of my passports. They are not supposed to give you hassle for no entry stamp though (i think).

Hi Endorphin,

I guess that means at your departure and arrival in Schiphol that you use your Dutch passport, and upon your arrival in the USA you present your US passport. Have you ever tried to depart by just giving your US passport? :?:

BTW...I just checked and I do have a dutch stamp in my passport, but it's from 8 years ago when I first entered. But in any case, if they hassle me, I can always produce my EU Identity card, which I carry in my wallet.

Thanks
