I've been living here for nearly a year now and have not made many friends. It seems a lot of Dutchies have friends from childhood and breaking into those circles is not easy (understandably). I attended a birthday party my first months here and the women sat on one side of the house while the guys played poker. All of the women knew my situation. That I knew very little Dutch and was new to their country. They did not engage me in conversation but instead talked amongst themselves as if I were invisible. I tried to say a few things (they all speak good English) but it was like I was interrupting.

A bit about me.

38, Dutch boyfriend, no children (no plans)
Native Californian but have lived in England for 5 years.
Living near Eindhoven but can easily travel by train to surrounding areas.
Love shopping, photography, music.
Easygoing personality.
Enjoy all cultures and am currently now an intermediate Dutch speaker.
Super sense of humour.

www.meetin.org then look for EUROPE and you'll see Eindhoven listed. They have their own web site with outings, etc in your area. Sure you'll fit in!
