Does anyone know of a good place to get lasik eye surgery in NL? I haven't decided if I want this in the NL or someplace else yet. But I'm looking for people's experiences with this both good and bad.
Peace! -------------------- Bleah!

Hi! Just bumping this up, because I too am looking for a place in Amsterdam to have this done.
If all else fails, then I will go where my parents both go theirs done: www.ultralase.co.uk because I know they did well. But I would prefer to stay closer to home to be honest, as the cost of hotel and flights, etc will make it a lot more expensive. |

I went for a consultation to VisionClinics and was indeed happy with the information they gave me. However, they would not perform Lasik or Lasek on me, and would only do lens implants, which would need to be removed after so many years. In the end, I chose a guy in Turkey that my surgeon recommended. He said he is one of the best, so I trust that! And he is sooooo cheap, too. I googled his name, and there are loads of studies that he wrote concerning eye health, so that said enough for me. I leave on Sunday for surgery on Monday. Wish me luck! Anyone can send me a message if you want to know how it went, or how much it cost, etc. |

Unfortunately she was told by the recommended NL doctor that she couldn't have either the Lasik or Lasek because her corneas were to thin and her eyesight too bad (-7 or 8, I think it is). I'd be interested to hear about your experience in Turkey, though. Hope it went well! -------------------- Normal is what you live.

The Turkish doctor was recommended to me by a very well-known surgeon that I work with. He said that this guy was one of the best in Europe, so that was enough for me. The clinic was beautiful, the staff were very friendly, and it was clean and lovely. I couldn't ask for more, I would recommend it in a heartbeat. Also, even though they said the same thing about my having surgery here in the Netherlands (basically, NO because my corneas were thin and prescription too strong), the guy in Turkey was willing to take me on. I also found lots of studies that he has done online in the area of corrective eye surgery, so he knows his stuff. |

When the surgery succeeds it's fine, but when it doesn't you're BLIND...

Emilio you don't know what you're talking about. There has never been a situation where someone has gone blind from lasik. The worst that could happen is that it won't work and you'll see as poorly as you did before.
To everyone else, my surgery went great. I can see fine now, and I always test my vision by asking my husband (who has perfect vision) if he can see this or that. I guess I'm not used to seeing perfectly, so I don't know how far good vision actually reaches, if that makes any sense. Anyway, the surgery was of course uncomfortable, but the two phases (2 different machines) each lasted only 2 to 4 minutes per machine per eye. So it was so quick. Over in about 15 to 20 minutes in total, wiht pauses between. Then, I went back to the hotel and wore big goggles on my eyes and they burned like I had wicked soap rubbed in them for 5 hours. After 5 hours (where every hour my husband had to pry open the eyes and drop eye drops into them), it was like someone flicked a switch and the pain stopped. I looked out of the hotel window and started cracking up because I could see the signs across the street 5 floors below. Medical miracle, if you ask me. A tip from me. Bring ski goggles with you, and sleep in them for a few days after your surgery. This will stop you from rubbing your eyes in your sleep. Good luck! The place where I went was www.kaskaloglu.com He was recommended to me by another surgeon in Belgium, and the clinic was great. Very modern and clean, and everyone was really friendly. Please let me know how you got on if you go. |
