Hi Folks

I'm shortly going to be moving from the UK to start a new job in the Netherlands near the German border. My plan in the mid to long term is to live on the German side of the border and commute in to work.

I am from the UK. Does this pose problems in terms of social security and taxation? How would this work? Or is it no different these days from someone living in Bristol and working in Cardiff?

Thanks
Glenn

or run a google search with "Euregio Rhein-Waal" or "EURES Region Rhein- Maas"

however most of the information wil be in Dutch and German.

I think it is going to be more complicated than living in Bristol and working in Cardiff. Especially if you are coming over with your family.

If you work in the NL and live in Germany, you will pay income tax to the Dutch government and you will be paying most of your social security in the NL. Like healthcare insurance, unemployment insurance, disability insurance, etc.

For tax issues, you can contact Tax and Customs Administration/Limburg/Department of International Issues in Heerlen:

http://www.belastingdienst.nl/contact/en/

for insurance and other stuff you can email the Bureau voor Duitse zaken (Bureau for German Affairs) bdz@svb.nl
