WARNING/DANGER AVOID THIS RESTAURANT - VIOLENT STAFF
Last night (Sat 15/09) my wife and I were out for a meal at La Fontanelle in Genval, a well known family Italian restaurant. During our meal we became aware of another family with 2 children and a pregnant woman who made a complaint as half of the meals had not been delivered and half of them had already finished their food. The husband complained and said he would not pay the bill and then he was attacked by 6 of the staff who grabbed him and punched and kick him throwing him to the floor. Another man in their party tried to assist and he was held by 2 staff and in turn was punched in the body and face. The family had to call the police to rescue them and the restaurant is now under investigation. My wife and I are retired and this was very frightening and we will never ever visit that place again and I would suggest no one else ever does either. It was clear they do not care about their customers and are prepared to use great aggression and violence against customers who complain about service. I hope the police take strong action against them. |

Belgium is not a country where the police cares much about this kind of problem. Even if they go to court, they aren't likely to get much more than their lawyer's fee back if they win the case. I have been told by some lawyers specialised in civil cases in Belgium that even if your child is run over by a car in front of you and is seriously injured or dies, the best you can expect from a Belgian court is something like 2000 euro in compensation. If it's just a beating and the guy is not invalid afterwars, he might get a symbolic 100 euro...
Belgium is all the opposite of the USA when it comes to police and justice. Excess of moderation... |

surely it's not about sueing the resturant for compensation - its about locking up violent criminals. If I were in the unfortunate restaurant goers shoes I'd just want these people locked up or punished in someway and wouldn't give a toss.
The police surely have a responsibility to pursue criminal activity - and I'm guessing assault is against the law in Belgium. |

There are so many things against the law in Belgium that never go punished. The police is utterly incompetent and totally unable to enforce the law. They are just good to give speeding tickets, make an official report after a car accident, check for illegal immigrants (but cannot deport them anyway), or contain demonstrations by angry syndicalists or students. Fighting and arresting violent criminals ? They are too scared to do that ! |

I hope the police take strong action against them. Their obviously 'terrone' scum from 'the south' !! The restaurant is probably just a mafia money laundering place and not much else. I hope the police check them out thoroughly, and dish out some appropriate justice. |
