Hi!

I've been a lurker for about 3 months now, but this is my first post.

I'm an American, preparing for a move to Namur, Belgium. My fiance lives there and we'll be getting married next summer. My question is, are there any "hippie" moms that can help me fine midwives/homebirth places, as well as resources for a more 'earthy' lifestyle? I've been there once, but my fiance knows NOTHING about child birth, etc. Honestly, I don't think he can even be in the room - he faints at the sight of blood. My future MIL and SIL both speak only French, so they won't be much help. Anyone know of good prenatal care/midwives in the Namur area?

I found 3 near me, but YOU can go to this site and see if there's one near you.

http://www.sage-femme.be/Parents/adresses.php Just pick your area.

Also? Congrats on being pregnant! smile.gif I've always wanted to give birth at home, and I really would rather NOT be in a hospital, as long as I'm healthy. I won't do an unassisted birth (my mother had complications), but birthing at home with an experienced midwife? That's the way for me. Besides, my fiance has this habit of passing out, and if he is free to wonder around his own home, i'm hoping it will be better.

Hey congrats, Jiska! biggrin.gif I hope everything goes well with the rest of your pregnancy.

You guys should move to NL - home births with midwives seem to be the rule rather than the exception here! tongue.gif If it wasn't for the fact that we're living right above an advocatenkantoor, I'd probably be giving birth at home too. As it is, we're going to a polikliniek, and if all goes well we'll be home within a couple of hours after the birth - the next best thing, I guess!

Anyway...good luck to both of you in finding what you want for your birth experiences.

Thanks camilla smile.gif can't be too long now before you give birth aren't you due sometime in october? it's great you can come home after a couple of hours smile.gif I had that with my 3rd child born in the uk I was allowed hoime after 6 hours and felt amazing! nothing like being amongst familiar surroundings without nurses etc hovering if I have to have a birth in the hospital again I shall insist like last time that I'm only staying one night providing all is ok with my baby...hospitals are boring wink.gif

I envy you! it may be my fifth child but I'm just as excited as I was with my first smile.gif I can't wait! I asked about a home birth but doc thinks because of my age(I'm only 42) and the fact my daughter is going to be on the small side that I'd be safer having her in the hospital but the good news is providing all is well I can go home after 4 hours...that I can put up with smile.gif
