No I don't speak French or Dutch or Flemish for that matter. However I plan on taking French in the near future. As far as Brussels we thoroughly enjoy it here. We wish the weather would warm up some for summer but other than that we are doing good. What about yourself? I live in Brussels presently. What area do you live?

Hey, I'm an American 30/m who has lived in the Dinant area for over 2 years. My French is adequate and I'm significantly closer to Arlon than Brxls, Namur, Liege, etc. If you want to speak about all things expat, to include your ennui and disillusionment with Wallonie culture, just let me know. Cheers! M
p.s. you should try Flanders (Gent, Leuven, Antwerp), it's more open, friendly and certainly more fun....good luck! |

Thanks alot Mman. how is Dinant and where are you from exactly? Whats brought you to belgium??
bbky: I live in a little bitty villiage called Arlon that I am really growing détester (to hate, lol) As for me to I dont speak any dutchand my french is absolutely horrible. I can speak a little Im begining to understand pretty well and can read some what, but Im still in desperate need of a class. To talk about Arlon a little more, its a nice little town if you like small town living but im from chicago and its too much of a culture shock for me. Ive been to Brussels a few times and I agree its a very nice city. If you and your wife havnt been already you should check out Luxembourg City, Luxembourg. I love this small city because its a good mix between modern and the more classic architecture. |

Chi-N,
Dinant is about 30-45 minutes from you on the 411 - direction Brussels. Its not far from Namur and it is MUCH smaller than Arlon.....I'm a city person as well so I can completely sympathize. I'm a teacher out here for the next few months, then I'm headed back to the States -- been overseas for about 4 years. While I like the Belgians in general, je meprise la vie dans la foret! :-) Take care and let me know if you want to hear some English, he. M |

i like the belgians also all the people that I met through my husband were all very nice ,open-minded individuals. I just get homesick somtimes. i just became an aunt and i hate that i wasnt there for the birth and wont be there for other things. What subject do you teach? do u think ure gonna miss belgique when you return to the states?

I teach a multi-disciplinary course entailing: emerging technologies, historical case studies and geo-politics....
Yeah, I'll miss some aspects of Belgium, particularly the beer and some of the food -- esp. the fresh baguettes!! But living in the countryside has really put a damper on things -- i.e. I must drive an hour to get to urban civilization. But, alas, it has been a great experience.... Best of luck w/ your remaining time here!! |

Hi, chi-netti! I am a former Chicago resident, and have been living in Brusells for about a year.I am not shure if you are familiar with the belgium capital, but just in case-do you know any american bars or pubs out here? Actually i am looking for job, based my experience in U.S as a restaurant waiter, barman and manager. Thank you in advance! (Do you like the Sox?) |
