Hi guys,

I have a question concerning the requirements for the managing director of a Belgian company.

I have a high-school diploma from Bulgaria (currently an EU member), a bachelor degree in Business Administration from the United States, and currently I am doing a master degree in Solvay Business School (VUB and ULB) in Brussels.

My questions are:
1. Would these qualifications be sufficient to be appointed as a company director (of a company that I will be a majority shareholder in)?
2. Do I have to apply for a Belgian equivalence of any of my diplomas?
3. Can previous business experience (from Bulgaria) be used as a proof for managerial skills and what documents are needed?

I really hope you can help me with this "little" obstacle I have..

Thank you in advance!

Kind Regards,
Rudy.

your post is old and u probably have your answers by now.

you need to have equivalence of your degree over here in belgium. this means going to some weird bureau and asking for some sort of certificate which says that your previous studies are recognized in belgium.

if your country has ratified an EU convention (i forgot the name), you just need to have a certified copy from the city hall of the place where u got the degree. (this is again another hassle).

if u can get some sort of certificate from your current university, that might save u from the problem.

send a feedback about how things are going for you.. the bureaucracy is simply too scary

Hey there,

First of all, thanks for answering my questions. Second, sorry for answering your post so late but I had a long summer vacation wink.gif

I managed to dig out some information..

Normally the diploma recognition is done by an agency called NARIC. As everything in Belgium, there is a French one and a Dutch one. However, the Dutch one looks more foreigner friendly wink.gif Here is the website with the required documents:

http://www.ond.vlaanderen.be/hogeronderwij...ric/default.htm

The process takes up to 3 months..

Anyways, I sent an inquiry to several of the so called "Business one-stop shops", where the registration process happens and after e-mailing them a scanned copy of my US diploma, they told me that it is recognized and that I don't need to apply for equivalence in NARIC.

I will know for sure in a month when I plan to establish the company smile.gif I hope there won't be any "surprises"....

Wish me luck smile.gif

Regards,
Rudy.
