I am a month away from my move to Brussels and I am on the fence as to whether I should bring my dog. I am anticipating a lot of travel so I am mostly concerned with leaving her when I travel. Do you know of good places to board pets? What are the prices like?

Hi,
I came across your original request regasrding information about dog care in brusells and was wondering how you had got on. Like you, I have an opportunity to move to Brussels in the next 2 months and am wondering whether or not I should take my 2 daschunds. I am also anticipating a lot of travel and have no idea how geared up Belgium is as country in repsect of dog walkers, pet sitters or boarding kennels. I would really appreciate it if you could let me know how you have found things in Brussels and if taking the dogs is the wise thing to do. Many thanks Halina |

So far I have only found one place to kennel dogs and it is in Overjise (sp?). I called hoping for a last minute booking this weekend and they told me that they were booked through August. So, there are kennels but apparently they fill up fast. I have found some dog sitting options, but generally they are either the person stays at the house, which I would have to get to know a person before I felt comfortable with that, or they come to the house and take the dog for a walk / play time but do not stay with them or take them to their home at night. I was also quoted 10 euros each time they come out, which seems like a lot to me.
Anyway, I would tell you that if you think you would miss your dogs a lot if you left them in your home country then bring them. I cannot imagine not having my dog here with me now. It is a dog friendly place and there are options. I think definitely try to make friends with other dog owners as soon as you arrive in hopes of finding someone you trust who is willing to watch your dog. And remember your dogs can easily travel with you within the EU. Let me know if you have more questions. Hope that helps. |

hello you 2.
if you still need somebody in the future to look after your friends with 4legs - please let us know. we are experienced in pet- and housesitting even this is not our main job. it is obvious that it is hard to trust a stranger who lives in your house and is responsible for your fellow but therefore multimedia is not a bad thing.... to get to know eachother better via internet or phone. hope to hear from you one day. have a good day, VERENA (STEPHANundVERENA) |
